The ACLJ's Post-Election Guide To Handling Holiday Hysteria
It almost never fails. Every holiday season, a family member, friend, or even a neighbor will inevitably go off on a rant about politics. And it’s a safe bet that, despite Trump’s clear sweep of the Electoral College and the popular vote, his election win is going to bring the fireworks to many holiday events.
There will be words like “unhinged,” “unstable,” and “unchecked.” There will be tirades on how “Trump will be a dictator on day one,” how he’s “a racist,” or the Left’s latest favorite label, that he’s “a Nazi.” Obviously, most of us would rather not engage with such fallacious arguments and risk ruining Thanksgiving before the pumpkin pie is even served.
Sadly, such conversations may be unavoidable. No one should be made to feel ashamed of their personal politics, especially when informed by facts. But rather than getting angry, we suggest that you simply be prepared. This is why we’ve created this handy resource to help you deal with any holiday vitriol at the dinner table.
To make sure you’re properly prepared for any potential debate, first take a look at Trump’s so-called “racist, dictatorial” actions during his first term:
Trump delivered opportunity for citizens of all backgrounds:
- “Unemployment rates for African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asian Americans, Native Americans, veterans, individuals with disabilities, and those without a high school diploma all reached record lows
- Unemployment for women hit its lowest rate in nearly 70 years
- Nearly 7 million people were lifted off of food stamps
- Poverty rates for African Americans and Hispanic Americans reached record lows
- Income inequality fell for two straight years – and by the largest amount in over a decade …
- African American homeownership increased from 41.7 percent to 46.4 percent”
- Trump’s Opportunity Zones (OZs) economic policy was signed into law as part of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017. The purpose was “to spur economic development and job creation in distressed communities by providing tax benefits to investors.” 8,764 communities across the U.S. were certified as OZs.
- Trump signed a bill to “permanently provide more than $250 million a year to the nation’s historically black colleges and universities, along with dozens of other institutions that serve large shares of minority students.”
- The bottom 50 percent of American households saw a 40 percent increase in net worth.
- Wages rose fastest for low-income and blue-collar workers - a 16 percent pay increase.
Strangely, we never heard these facts reported by the mainstream media throughout the campaign. Do these results reflect the actions of a racist dictator?
Maybe because it wasn’t actually the Trump Administration that behaved like a dictatorship.
Take a look at what other so-called “progressive” Administrations have done during their tenure:
- Biden-Harris’ FEMA instructed aid workers to avoid homes with Trump signs in the aftermath of a devastating hurricane, labeling Trump supporters as “domestic terrorists.”
- The Obama Administration unconstitutionally targeted Tea Party groups using the IRS. (The ACLJ represented the Tea Party in this case.)
- Hillary Clinton’s campaign paid for the Steele Dossier, which created the Russian collusion hoax and launched the Mueller probe, resulting in zero proof of Russian collusion with Trump.
- The Obama FBI launched “Crossfire Hurricane” to spy on the Trump campaign using improperly obtained FISA warrants.
- The Biden Administration worked with Big Tech (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube) to suppress free speech regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.
- The Left impeached Trump over his alleged Ukraine quid pro quo phone call – after President Biden was caught on camera admitting he leveraged $1 billion in taxpayer money to get a Ukrainian prosecutor fired who was looking into the Biden business dealings with Burisma.
- The Left and the mainstream media blamed Trump for the chaos of the January 6 “insurrection” despite Trump’s request for increased National Guard presence to help maintain law and order on the day – a request that was denied by Nancy Pelosi. They then impeached Trump over the “insurrection” and threw more than 1,000 protesters in jail.
- The Biden-Harris Administration appointed Jack Smith to prosecute Trump over January 6, despite the U.S. Supreme Court ruling Trump had absolute immunity for presidential acts.
- The Colorado Secretary of State tried to disqualify Trump from the GOP primary ballot using the 14th Amendment before the U.S. Supreme Court intervened. (The ACLJ successfully defended this case at the Supreme Court.)
- Fulton County DA Fani Willis indicted Trump over election interference despite multiple ethics violations throughout the process.
- Far-Left prosecutors turned campaign finance misdemeanors into felonies in New York in order to label Trump a “felon.”
- The Biden-Harris Administration raided Mar-a-Lago over the presence of classified documents and then unconstitutionally appointed Special Counsel Jack Smith to prosecute.
- New York AG Letitia James ordered Trump to pay a $454 million bond as the result of a civil fraud case where she accused him of overinflating the value of his assets to get more loans (despite no crime being committed and no victim coming forward).
- The Biden-Harris FBI actively targeted pro-life Catholics. (ACLJ filed FOIA.)
- Lawmakers such as Senator Chuck Schumer (NY) threatened and intimidated Supreme Court Justices after they overturned Roe v. Wade, resulting in assassination attempts on three Supreme Court Justices.
And these are just some of their greatest hits. The complete list is longer than Santa’s.
So this year, if your sister’s new boyfriend or your angry Aunt Karen starts ranting about the election and how Trump is a racist or a dictator who should be trussed up like this year's turkey, don’t let their misguided derangement ruin your holiday. Just refer to our handy list of factual responses to many of the radical Left’s most popular inaccuracies about President Trump, conservatives, and the election to hopefully restore a little peace on earth – or at least in your dining room.
Remember, the holidays are about peace and goodwill. Don’t get mad at your family and friends if they’ve been misled and misinformed. The best gift you can give your loved ones is the truth.
From all of us at the ACLJ, we wish you a Happy Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas!
