Religious Liberty

President Biden and the radical Left continue to wage a sinister war against Christians in America. From kids in public schools to churches to Christian employees – believers across America are under attack.

To combat this, the ACLJ tirelessly strives in the courts to protect Christians from the radical Left’s attacks. Every day, we continue to fight and win cases for religious freedom.

One arena in which we fight and often win is public schools. Ever since the government removed prayer from school in 1962, the Left has sought to remove any other vestiges of Christian expression in public schools, ignoring the fact that students still have a right to express their faith.

For example, elementary school officials recently reprimanded a young boy for passing out religious materials and sharing his faith with others. The school cited the long-debunked “separation of Church and state” argument (found nowhere in the Constitution) as cover for this disgusting attack on a young Christian.

In a separate incident, a young girl was sent to the principal’s office TEN TIMES for talking about Jesus. School officials also searched her backpack every morning to remove any Christian materials. Elsewhere, a public school confiscated a second grader’s Bible. Can you imagine snatching a Bible out of a young girl’s hand?

To defend these kids, we sent urgent legal letters on their behalf to remind the schools of the kids’ First Amendment rights to freedom of religion. After we got involved, each school rightly backed down and allowed the kids to continue expressing their faith.

So never forget that your child has the right to carry a Bible and tell others about Jesus in a public school. The Constitution protects your child’s sacred religious freedom.

We also see relentless attacks on Christian kids outside the classroom. At the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, staffers spewed profanities at kids simply because they wore hats with a Christian pro-life message – before booting them from the museum.

The Smithsonian is a federal institution. Such reprehensible discrimination by public officials toward pro-life kids must not – AND WILL NOT – be tolerated. We are already preparing swift legal action on the kids’ behalf.

Of course, Christian kids aren’t the only ones under attack: Christian churches also face onslaughts from the Left. We just presented oral arguments at the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals on behalf of Vision Warriors Church, which provides a unique outreach program to serve the community. But due to discriminatory bias against the ministry, county officials are trying to zone them out of existence, refusing to allow them to use their property.

We also represent another church that was banned from using its property in a similar case that is before the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals. We remain vigilant to defend both churches.

The Left also has Christian workers in its crosshairs, but the ACLJ helps shield believers and hold offending employers accountable. We’re engaged in courtrooms across America to defend Christians in the workplace.

Right now, we represent a real estate agent who suffered severe harassment from the Virginia Real Estate Board for including John 3:16 and “Jesus Loves You” in her email signatures. Why should someone be kept from sharing her Christian identity in her email signature? This is a clear violation of free speech.

We are thrilled that the Supreme Court has agreed to hear a major religious liberty case that will impact workplace rights after the United States Postal Service refused to allow a postal worker to attend church on Sunday. The outcome of this case will have serious ramifications for workers everywhere. Your right to attend church is at stake, and we are preparing a critical amicus brief at the Supreme Court to defend your right to go to church, which is protected by federal law.

We cannot allow the federal government or any employer to force employees to forgo their day of worship. The ACLJ will fight for your right to a religious accommodation to attend church.

Not only are we fighting for religious freedom, but we are also winning cases for both individuals and churches. We are reaping the harvest of our labor.

This past summer, we helped score a significant victory at the Supreme Court as we filed an amicus brief in support of a football coach who lost his job after leading a prayer after football games. Such a firing was unconstitutional and an assault on religious liberty and the right to pray. The Supreme Court rightly sided with our arguments. We also successfully blocked unconstitutional efforts to shut down churches and ban singing in churches during the pandemic.

Our work at the ACLJ never ends because we refuse to capitulate to the secular mob. We will never “grow weary of doing good” (Galatians 6:9), and we will never cease fighting for religious freedom.
