The ACLJ is representing the Oklahoma GOP to stop the politicized twisting of the 14th Amendment to keep conservatives from having the ability to vote for Donald Trump in 2024. The Deep State election interference must end.

After a lawsuit demanded Trump be ineligible to appear on their state’s primary ballot, the Oklahoma Republican Party wants to protect ballot access.

As reported by a local Oklahoma news affiliate:

A candidate for President out of Texas filed a lawsuit on Sept. 6 that seeks to bar Donald Trump from being on the 2024 ballot in Oklahoma. . . .

The write-in candidate John Anthony Castro claims Trump provided aid or comfort to those who participated in the Jan. 6 insurrection. The suit is filed in the United States District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma. Trump and the Secretary of the Oklahoma State Election Board are named.

Castro says the 14th Amendment has an implied cause of action for another candidate to get relief if there is a political competitive injury because a candidate engaged in or provided aid or comfort to an insurrection. The relief Castro is seeking — to have Trump off the ballot.

So this lawsuit was brought by someone who claims to be a Republican candidate who wants to keep his opponent from running for office. Castro claims that Trump is an insurrectionist and should be disqualified from running – even though Trump was never charged with or convicted of insurrection.

Because of this unconstitutional lawsuit, the ACLJ is representing the Oklahoma Republican Party to stop this blatant attempt to disenfranchise voters in the state. We filed a motion to intervene in federal court so the Oklahoma Republican Party could be heard in this case.

What exactly is the Oklahoma GOP’s role in an election? It has a say in who the Republican nominees will be in the presidential election. It also defines the rules that Republican candidates must follow, sets the platform for the Republican Party, and determines the Oklahoma delegation to vote at the Republican National Convention. These reasons are why the Oklahoma GOP is defending the constitutional rights of its members to participate freely in the electoral process.

Oklahoma State Senator and Chairman of Oklahoma GOP Nathan Dahm (OK-33) joined our broadcast to warn of the long-term dangers of trampling on the Constitution:

I lived overseas as a missionary . . . and I grew up in a formerly Communist country in Eastern Europe. . . . That’s why I’m willing to do everything I can to defend the Constitution and fight for the rights of the people. . . . This is the type of stuff [that’s] straight out of the Marxist playbook – where they will use every political means possible to refuse to allow their opponents to have a voice, to allow people to have a vote. I believe it was Joseph Stalin [who] said something to the effect that it doesn’t matter who you vote for – it matters who counts the votes. And in a lot of these Communist countries, they’ll say that you have the right to vote, but there’s only ever one candidate on the ballot, and that’s the Communist Party’s nominee.

Such a warning should send chills down the spines of every American. We can’t allow America to descend into a Marxist regime. We must fight to preserve our constitutional republic.

Our Oklahoma case is very similar to our Colorado lawsuit. We were in court yesterday in Colorado fighting for essentially all Americans to have the option to vote for their preferred candidate. A judge granted us intervention status in our case yesterday, which was a significant win. We are on an expedited schedule and expect further action in the case soon.

More than a dozen states have ongoing litigation distorting the 14th Amendment to keep a candidate off a primary ballot. All 50 states could be in court over this issue, and we expect the Supreme Court to rule eventually on whether Americans have the right to vote for the candidate of their choice.

We are promoting an important petition fighting the far Left’s “disqualification plot” against Trump. We want 100,000 signatures so we can share your disgust with this election interference. We still need more than 20,000 votes to reach our goal. Sign this petition and share it with your friends.

Today’s Sekulow broadcast also featured ACLJ Senior Advisor for National Security and Foreign Policy Ric Grenell, who discussed President Joe Biden’s disastrous hostage deal with Iran and how it raises the price tag on all Americans traveling overseas.
