Trump Pleads “Not Guilty” to Special Counsel Jack Smith’s Retooled Indictment
Listen tothis article
The far Left’s political prosecution of President Donald Trump continues. The former President just pleaded not guilty to Special Counsel Jack Smith’s superseding indictment for Jan. 6 election interference.
A week ago, Smith roared back with a vengeance against President Trump after the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on presidential immunity derailed his original Jan. 6 case. The Justices asserted (agreeing with the arguments in the ACLJ’s amicus brief) that all U.S. Presidents have immunity for “official acts” done while serving in office.
With this superseding indictment – a new indictment that overrides the previous one – Smith is prosecuting “candidate Trump” instead of “President Trump.” In other words, it’s the same indictment with a few tweaks.
Although the prosecution wants to rush the case before the election, the judge in the D.C. federal court said she wouldn’t schedule court proceedings according to the election timeline, asserting: “I understand there’s an election pending. I have said before, and I will say again, that the election is not relevant here. This court is not concerned with the electoral schedule.” So while the DOJ might be trying to interfere in the election, the judge isn’t buying it.
The judge could set a schedule very soon for the Jan. 6 case, even as soon as today. We’ll keep you updated on Smith’s ongoing political prosecution.
Of course, all this comes on the heels of the Biden-Harris DOJ just yesterday accusing Russia of trying to interfere in the election again to get Trump elected. It’s about to be Russia, Russia, Russia all over again. We’re supposed to believe somehow Russia is engaged in this ground battle and misleading millions of Americans.
Vladimir Putin is already on the record saying he wants Vice President Kamala Harris to win the election. And why wouldn’t Putin support the same Administration that didn’t deter him from invading Ukraine? So far, Harris hasn’t shown any leadership in foreign policy, and a weak U.S. gives Russia more freedom to wreak havoc around the world.
President Trump proclaimed last night in Pennsylvania that Putin never would have attacked Ukraine under his watch because he “was the toughest on Russia.” Trump has also made it clear that he could end the Russia-Ukraine conflict rather quickly.
Maybe instead of worrying about possible Russian disinformation, the Biden-Harris Administration should be focused on our open border and the threat of China. The United States must have a strong presence on the world stage to protect our interests at home and abroad.
Former U.S. Representative Tulsi Gabbard weighed in on U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland sounding the alarm on Russia:
This is like déjà vu happening all over again, and the fact that you have the Biden-Harris Administration once again sounding off with Russia, Russia, Russia, it reminds me of what we’ve been through already over these last eight years – what we went through when President Trump first ran for office. . . . Well, they must really be getting worried because this is the usual play out of their tried-and-true playbook of what to do when they are under threat: Try to foment fear. [Also,] they’re saying that Russia is trying to come in and influence our elections. Well, we have seen a video this morning of Vladimir Putin saying that his presidential candidate of choice is Kamala Harris – that he hopes Kamala Harris gets elected. Well, why aren’t the headlines about Vladimir Putin trying to help Kamala Harris get elected?
Tulsi made a great point. Why would Russia be subverting our elections on Trump’s behalf if it wants to get Kamala Harris elected? It’s just more hypocrisy by the Left.
