In a surprising twist, Rep. Eric Swalwell’s (CA-14) legal team sent a cease-and-desist letter to FBI Director Kash Patel to stop the release of records related to his relationship with Communist Chinese spy Christine Fang.

What could the Congressman, who currently has his eyes on succeeding Gavin Newsom as the governor of California, be worried about the public finding out?

As reported by The New York Post:

Eric Swalwell has issued a cease-and-desist letter to FBI Director Kash Patel over threats to release investigative files about a suspected Chinese spy who infiltrated his office.
In the letter, Swalwell, who is considered the Democratic frontrunner in the race for California governor, demanded the FBI agree within three days not to release the files, and that doing so could result in legal action, according to the Washington Post.
Swalwell held a press conference Monday, insisting the “case is closed” and accused Patel as a “temporary employee” engaged in a “horrendous abuse of power” in digging up the investigative files about him and Christine Fang — a suspected Chinese Communist Party asset who cultivated ties with the East Bay rep starting when he was a Dublin city council member.
Fang, also known as “Fang Fang,” was a student at California State University East Bay who began schmoozing Swalwell at events, Axios reported in 2020, even bundling donations for his campaign and recommending interns for his office.
Trump officials ordered FBI agents to compile records of the decade-old investigation of Swalwell’s ties to Fang, who reportedly left the US in 2015 after worming her way into Swalwell’s orbit and carrying on romantic or sexual relationships with two midwestern mayors, per Axios.
Sean Hecker and Norman L. Eisen, Attorneys for Swalwell, called the move a “smear attempt” to undermine his run for governor, adding that releasing the files would violate the Privacy Act of 1974, The Washington Post Reported.

Congressman Eric Swalwell was one of the lead protagonists of the impeachment of President Donald Trump, which of course resulted in an acquittal. Now Swalwell himself is caught up in a scandal involving an apparent Chinese agent. That agent not only has ties to the Chinese Communist Party, she actually works for the Chinese Communist Party in their intelligence department.

At the time, we filed four Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests to discover how Fang had gained such close access to the Congressman and was able to infiltrate his office.

We now know that Swalwell had his lawyers try to keep these potentially incriminating records from getting out. Which, first off, let me say A for effort. For Swalwell to think that he can just tell the FBI to stop investigating him with any kind of authority is brazen, to say the least. Imagine how many others would try this tactic if he were successful. It would be absurd.

However, the FBI continues to consider releasing the investigative docs centered around his relationship with a Chinese spy who was somehow able to infiltrate his office with seemingly little resistance.

Now Swalwell is calling this potential exposure of wrongdoing on his part “election interference.” Yet ironically, Swalwell was one of the loudest voices perpetuating the Russia collusion hoax against President Trump. He was also subsequently relieved of his position on the House Intelligence Committee. One could see where being on an intelligence committee and having foreign spies in your office could raise eyebrows.

So now Swalwell is threatening Patel that there’ll be legal trouble if the FBI dares to release those documents. It begs the question: If there’s nothing there, then why not let them come out and clear your name once and for all?

U.S. Special Presidential Envoy Ric Grenell joined us on the broadcast and echoed the idea that Swalwell is only trying to block these records from release because they may show the public a very different truth about his relationship with the Chinese spy than the one he’s been pushing:

It’s total hypocrisy because what we’ve known for years is that Eric Swalwell has said that this narrative that he had an affair with a Chinese spy was wrong. He would say things like, You’re misinterpreting what was done. He would say things like, These are half-truths.
And so now we’ve got the opportunity to see the whole file, and he’s running scared. He’s really nervous that the public is going to get to compare the truth to what he’s been telling us for years. This is the same thing that happened with Adam Schiff when he was exposed, when I declassified and unredacted all of the information that he had been saying, I get to see it. You don’t. You don’t understand the full file.
Well, when we released the full file, it was proven that Adam Schiff had been lying on CNN and MSNBC for years. This is now in Eric Swalwell’s lap. He doesn’t want this to come out because he’s running for office. He is a manipulator of the truth, and when the truth is about to come out, he gets very nervous.

It’s unclear how likely it is that the FBI will heed Swalwell’s warning, but one thing seems certain – this is trouble the Congressman probably doesn’t want as he campaigns for a new job in California.
