Special Counsel Jack Smith Backs Down From Politically Biased Prosecution After Election
Listen tothis article
Is the far Left’s political prosecution of President-elect Donald Trump finally over? Special Counsel Jack Smith is reportedly looking to drop his federal indictments against Trump. It’s probably a good move since Trump announced that he would fire Smith “within two seconds” after reentering the White House.
Smith’s two cases against Trump include the classified documents case (in which a federal judge had already ruled that Smith’s appointment was unconstitutional) and his Jan. 6 superseding indictment.
Last week, the ACLJ filed an amicus brief at the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, calling for Special Counsel Jack Smith’s disqualification from his election lawfare. Our brief raised fundamental constitutional concerns about Smith’s appointment as Special Counsel.
Though Smith’s prosecution is likely coming to an end, other cases are still pending against Trump. Yesterday at a press conference, New York AG Letitia James stated that her office isn’t backing down: “We faced this challenge before, and we used the rule of law to fight back. And we are prepared to fight back once again. . . . And I will not shrink from that responsibility.” James’ civil fraud case involves targeting Trump’s real estate assets in New York City. Since James is overseeing a civil case, I don’t see it lasting much longer.
Meanwhile, Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg’s criminal case that resulted in Trump’s felony conviction still awaits sentencing. The judge has indicated that he is considering throwing out the conviction. At the same, the judge could still keep the misdemeanor charges, which Trump would have to appeal.
Finally, don’t forget about DA Fani Willis’ Georgia election interference case against Trump that is still awaiting review at the Georgia Court of Appeals. The ACLJ had also filed an amicus brief to have Willis disqualified from her political prosecution because of the “odor of mendacity” that permeated her case. I expect this case to get tossed soon.
We will keep you updated on the remaining legal issues for Trump. Each of these cases had been politically motivated to keep Trump from retaking the White House. However, the American people made it clear that they didn’t buy the weak charges levied against Trump.
Former U.S. Rep Tulsi Gabbardbecame a key member of Trump’s campaign team leading up to the election. She explained why the American people chose to reelect Trump despite the ongoing legal cases:
On election night . . . the American people’s voices were heard. What I saw and felt was just so hope-inspiring. Cause when you look at what happened throughout this campaign, really frankly, what happened since 2016, everything that the power elite and the Democrat elite, the national security state, the military-industrial complex, everything that they threw at President Trump, everything the propaganda media threw at him, everything with Big Tech trying to manipulate what information we’re allowed to see – the American people saw through it and voted for a President who has clearly shown through his record and through his message to the American people in this campaign that he stands for free speech, that he is eager to bring prosperity back to America again, and [that he wants to] make life easier and better for the American people.
Now that the election is over, I hope the country can move forward from endless lawfare against political opponents. We don’t want to be a banana republic. It’s time to unite as a nation and not abuse the rule of law for political gain.
