Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (MN-5) investigation just took a bizarre twist. Federal investigators seized her passport and samples of her DNA, in addition to her sister’s phone. Does the evidence point to Omar committing immigration fraud?

Last week, we reported that federal agents had raided her Washington, D.C., home as part of a criminal investigation. At the time, not much detail was given beyond that.

The next day, Omar took to social media, calling the raid “political intimidation” by the Trump Administration, and vowed she would not be silenced.

Now we have this new update.

As reported by the New York Post:

People familiar with the years-long criminal probe said the feds have made use of whistleblowers, government records and now obtained DNA in an effort to substantiate decade-old allegations that Omar — and possibly members of her family like her father — defrauded immigration authorities.

One source said the DNA evidence was critical to proving an allegation that Omar married her brother when she wed Ahmed Nur Said Elmi in 2009 because she was trying to help him get a green card — which never came to fruition.

This has long been a theory quietly whispered about: that Omar tried to help her brother obtain a green card by listing him as her spouse in immigration documents. If proven to be true, this would have implications both for her own immigration status as well as the individual claiming to be her husband.

Now, once again, this is what’s being released to the press. These are essentially unofficial leaks at this point. As of this writing, we still don’t have direct statements about the full purpose of this investigation, what precipitated it at this time, or why the raid even happened in the first place.

But now, not only are we hearing about this potential DNA evidence, but it’s also being reported that federal investigators conducted an interview with  Omar’s sister – Sahra Noor, an author living in Kenya – while she was in the United States promoting her latest book. Again, beyond that, we don’t really have any information regarding what they spoke to Omar’s sister about, but the report claims she spoke to investigators willingly.

Despite the feds releasing very little information, this investigation isn’t going away anytime soon, regardless of the criticisms of the Left. It appears that the DOJ is moving forward with a case against Omar, even as she is just weeks away from likely being reelected.

For now, we’ll just have to wait and see what, if anything, Omar is charged with, whether there will be any major bombshell developments before the midterms, and what the ramifications could be for her and her seat in Congress.

Today’s Sekulow broadcast included more analysis of this latest news on the investigation against Rep. Ilhan Omar and how it might impact the upcoming election. We also spoke with our colleague from the European Centre for Law and Justice (ECLJ), Christophe Foltzenlogel, to discuss the violent riots that have recently terrorized France.
