Feds Raid Home of Sitting Congresswoman

Federal agents raided Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Washington, D.C., home early this morning. Homeland Security Investigations executed a search warrant tied to a criminal investigation.
As reported by Fox News:
The home of Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn, was raided early Monday morning by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), a source familiar with the matter told Fox News Digital.
Multiple federal agents with HSI jackets were seen outside Omar's Washington, D.C. home in the early hours of Monday.
Two sources close to the investigation say the search stems from a criminal fraud investigation into the Somali-born congresswoman's immigration paperwork, which was filled out by her late father when she was a child.
About a month ago, United States Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin made a statement at the Republican Midterm Convention hinting that something was going to be happening regarding an investigation into Rep. Omar, stating:
Something’s gonna happen. This is an ongoing investigation. We know that she married her brother to try to bring him to the United States. We know he lives now in London. We feel that this may, you know, . . . there may be more to this, the whole family migration, and possibly some illegal activity for them to come to the United States to begin with.
And now today federal agents equipped with a warrant – meaning a judge determined there was sufficient legal basis to authorize the search – have conducted a search of Omar’s Washington D.C., area home.
Critics on the Left are claiming that this was a politically motivated raid to harass Omar because she is a political enemy of President Trump. Interestingly, Secretary Mullin actually addressed such criticism a month ago, adding:
If we actually move a case forward, it’s not a political case . . . if you decided to break the law or lie on the information you gave the United States, to be able to come into the United States, through either asylum or because you were just wanting to seek a better life but you didn’t tell us who you actually were, you lied about certain things on your application, those things, there’s no expiration to that.
Omar has never been one to shy away from controversy, especially when it pertains to Israel and the Jewish people. After all, she has made multiple antisemitic remarks during her time in Congress. Among her greatest hits: her suggestion stating that Israel had hypnotized the world, and of course, that time she wrote that U.S. support for Israel was “all about the Benjamins” – capitalizing on that old antisemitic trope that Jews use money to control everything.
And of course, we shouldn’t forget that time she equated the United States to terrorist groups like Hamas and the Taliban.
But this raid is not about her attacks on Israel, it’s about alleged corruption.
Signing off on a search warrant is a responsibility that judges take seriously. The legal threshold matters, and authorizing a search can carry significant consequences. Such a decision requires a sufficient legal basis, particularly when it involves a high-profile public official. We’ll continue to monitor this developing story and keep you updated as more details emerge.
Today’s Sekulow broadcast included more discussion of the raid on Omar’s home. We were also joined by ACLJ Senior Counsel and head of ACLJ Jerusalem Jeff Ballabon to discuss bombing attacks on a Saudi Arabia airport by Houthi terrorists, killing at least 13 people.
