President Trump Secures Deal With China, Signs EO Against Big Pharma
Listen tothis article
Today was a massive day for the Trump Administration. Following successful negotiations in Switzerland, the Trump Administration announced that China and the U.S. would reduce tariffs for a period of 90 days. Also, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt revealed that Trump signed an Executive order reducing the costs of prescription drug prices.
Reportedly, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and his team were having marathon-long negotiations with China. As a result, for the next 90 days, the U.S. will reduce its tariffs on Chinese imports from 145% to 30%. Conversely, China will lower its tariffs on U.S. goods from 125% to 10%.
Also notable, the Trump Administration is taking preventative action to halt the flow of fentanyl from China into the U.S. After being threatened with higher tariffs, China promised to stop sending the drug, which has killed countless Americans, into the U.S.
Now it’s been about six weeks since Liberation Day, when Trump announced worldwide tariffs. Of course, he’s been heavily criticized by the mainstream media for the move.
However, as I mentioned at the outset, Trump’s strategy was to bring other nations to the negotiation table. And last week, we saw the U.K. make a deal, a trade deal with India is likely imminent, and China just made a deal. So far, the strategy is working.
And how about President Trump’s newest Executive order to combat soaring drug prices? He believes that if other nations are paying much less for prescription drugs, then the U.S. deserves the same deal.
One shocking statistic from the Executive order reads: “The United States has less than five percent of the world’s population and yet funds around three quarters of global pharmaceutical profits.” Let this sobering truth sink in for a minute.
We always hear in the mainstream media that Trump is in the pocket of Big Pharma, that he will destroy Medicaid, or that he doesn’t care about everyday Americans. However, today’s Executive order proves such accusations are false.
To be sure, Trump’s latest move doesn’t come across as a traditionally conservative move. And I’m all about the free market. But the Executive order is an “America first” move for sure. And it ensures that Americans will be able to buy drugs directly from manufacturers, thereby reducing the costs.
The drug companies and pharmaceutical reps will be upset about the Executive order. But do you know who won’t be upset? Seniors on a fixed income, Social Security, or Medicaid.
Almost every rational human being would agree that the prescription drug system in America is very broken and flawed. And President Trump is seeking ways to assist those in need.
Speaking of victories, the ACLJ has two to report. As you know, our legal team was in court last week to oppose a Motion to Dismiss our Massachusetts case. We are fighting against the taxpayer-funded smear campaign that the far Left is waging against Pregnancy Resource Centers (PRCs).
During the hearing, ACLJ Senior Litigation Counsel Olivia Summers engaged in an exchange with the judge for more than an hour. She also told the judge about recent evidence we uncovered just last week through our records request (a state FOIA) that further strengthened our case about the unlawful campaign against PRCs.
We are proud to report that our case was not dismissed, and we have received some indications that it is making headway in Massachusetts. The judge even commended our attorney for how well she presented the case. So our fight is likely far from over now after this upfront win.
And the ACLJ had another victory regarding our fight to defend pro-life advocate Zach Knotts, who was unlawfully charged while sharing his message outside an abortion clinic in Ohio. Our lawyers arrived for trial but noticed a critical error by the prosecution that changed the theory of their case and rewrote the charges on the spot.
As a result, our lawyers objected, and the prosecution dropped the case. So our client has been cleared of the unlawful charges. We are grateful to secure this victory, and we owe our thanks to our generous ACLJ Members and Champions.
Today’s Sekulow broadcast included a full analysis of President Donald Trump’s massive trade deal with China and his Executive order to curb soaring prescription drug prices. ACLJ Senior Counsel for International and Government Affairs Jeff Ballabon reacted to the final American hostage being released by Hamas.
