HISTORIC: President Trump Brokers Gaza Peace Deal
Listen tothis article
Could this be the day that peace finally comes to the Middle East?
In a historic breakthrough, President Donald Trump has reportedly succeeded in brokering an agreement between Israel and Hamas to end the war. At least for now, Israel and Hamas have both agreed to Phase 1 of the President’s peace deal. All the remaining Israeli hostages will be released, and the IDF will withdraw from Gaza.
Hamas has agreed to a peace deal pushed by President Donald Trump to end the war in Gaza and return the hostages, two years after the terrorist network attacked Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, sparking not only the bloodiest day for Jews since the Holocaust, but a deadly war and a humanitarian crisis across the Gaza Strip.
Trump took to Truth Social Wednesday to make the announcement: “I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan. This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace. All Parties will be treated fairly! This is a GREAT Day for the Arab and Muslim World, Israel, all surrounding Nations, and the United States of America, and we thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, who worked with us to make this Historic and Unprecedented Event happen. BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS!”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a statement calling it a “great day for Israel”:
A great day for Israel. Tomorrow I will convene the government to approve the agreement and bring all our dear hostages home.
I thank the heroic soldiers of the IDF and all the security forces, thanks to whose courage and sacrifice we have reached this day.
I thank from the depths of my heart President Trump and his team for their mobilization for this sacred mission of releasing our hostages.
With the help of the Almighty, together we will continue to achieve all our goals and expand peace with our neighbors.
For its part, Hamas also released a statement regarding the ceasefire:
After responsible and serious negotiations between the movement and the Palestinian resistance factions regarding President Trump’s proposal in Sharm el-Sheikh, with the goal of reaching an end to the war of extermination against our Palestinian people and the occupation’s withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) announces the conclusion of an agreement stipulating an end to the war on Gaza, the occupation’s withdrawal from it, the entry of aid, and a prisoner exchange.
It’s being reported that Israel believes some 20 hostages remain alive and should be home soon. We are hopeful that two of those hostages are the ACLJ’s clients, as we’ve represented their families throughout this nightmare.
This could be the most significant peace effort in the Middle East that we’ve seen in decades. My dad, ACLJ Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow, joined me on the broadcast to share his personal reaction to the news:
This is very encouraging. First of all, it would bring regional stability not just to Israel, including Gaza and the West Bank, but it would bring regional stability to the Middle East, and that’s very important for the rest of the world. You have to put this also in context. Iran has been significantly degraded over the last nine months because of President Trump’s orders directly to our U.S. military to degrade their nuclear capacity, so you have that also happening simultaneously. We had the introduction of the first phase – what I call it – of the Abraham Accords. I think you’re going to see this open up other countries to sign those Accords in the very near future. You can already see that the regional players, including the Arab countries, are looking forward to this actually happening because it will take pressure off all of them.
Of course, our initial and primary concern has been the hostages, because as lawyers, we were retained by . . . a number of the families to represent their interests before international tribunals, which we did. . . . We have made an international effort here, and I think what you’re about to see, and the details here are the key – it’s not now what’s been written, that’s been executed – it is the implementation of this. Will we actually see the release of the hostages, and . . . are there 20, are there 30, are there 5? We don’t have a specific number. Israel’s intelligence thinks there’s upwards of 20. I hope and pray that’s the case. I hope and pray there’s more, but this is a very positive development, and I think you could see a radical change in the entire region.
Today’s Sekulow broadcast included more analysis of this historic announcement, how long the process may take, and what could happen next. Will we see a new, peaceful co-existence between Hamas and Israel, or will this be another false start?
