Felony Conviction for Rogue Judge
Listen tothis article
The rogue judge in Wisconsin who helped a violent illegal alien escape from ICE agents in her courthouse was just found guilty of obstructing federal agents. With a felony conviction, Judge Hannah Dugan faces up to five years in prison.
So here’s what led to the judge’s arrest and subsequent trial. An illegal immigrant, Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, was scheduled to appear in Judge Dugan’s court after being charged with three misdemeanors for domestic battery. He had punched his roommate 30 times and then hit the roommate’s girlfriend in the face. A third individual was also injured in the fracas. So Flores-Ruiz is a very violent person.
At the same time, a warrant was out for his arrest, and ICE planned to take him down outside the courthouse. (Flores-Ruiz had already been removed from the U.S. in 2013.) Dugan became aware of ICE’s plans and confronted the ICE officials, saying they needed a judicial warrant. Then she orchestrated for Flores-Ruiz and his attorney to escape out a side door.
After a short pursuit on foot, the federal authorities captured the illegal immigrant. Additionally, the truth emerged about the judge’s alleged aiding and abetting of Flores-Ruiz’s escape.
So not only does Judge Dugan face jail time after being convicted by a jury of her peers, but she also will not be allowed to serve as a judge in Wisconsin – per state law. So even though the wheels of justice turn slowly, we are seeing accountability for a judge who believed she was above the law.
Let’s also not forget one of the wild arguments the defense attorneys made for the judge over the course of the trial. They argued that since the U.S. Supreme Court had granted presidential immunity for official acts in office, the same principle should apply to state judges. Since she was merely managing movement inside her courtroom, Judge Dugan deserves “judicial immunity.”
I guess you can applaud Judge Dugan’s defense for being creative, but that’s a truly illogical argument. And of course, the federal judge presiding over the case rejected that outrageous claim.
Over the past year, we’ve seen numerous cases of rogue judges taking the law into their hands to block President Donald Trump’s Executive orders. The problem is that district judges are supposed to be limited to the jurisdiction of their particular court and not issue injunctions that affect the whole country.
In response, the ACLJ has filed a litany of amicus briefs to stop rogue judges. For example, in April, we represented the state of West Virginia, filing an amicus brief at the U.S. Supreme Court. In a 6-3 decision authored by Justice Amy Coney Barrett, the high Court ruled in favor of President Trump (agreeing with the ACLJ’s amicus brief), blocking district judges from stopping the Administration’s agenda.
Most recently, we filed at the Supreme Court to fight the radical Left as it works overtime to unleash chaos – blocking law enforcement, threatening immigration officers, and denying the President’s use of the National Guard to protect us.
And just days later, we filed in two appellate courts to defeat the Left’s desperate attempts to funnel your tax dollars into their radical pet projects – including direct funding for abortion. They want to resume the status quo – back before Trump and DOGE exposed and cut the waste, fraud, and abuse.
We can’t allow rogue judges to continue to take the law into their own hands to promote their far-Left agenda. For example, what if a radical district judge decides to ban Bible studies nationwide in retirement homes?
