Feds Zero In on Swalwell and Comey
Listen tothis article
It’s already been a busy week for the U.S. Department of Justice.
The Trump DOJ is charging former FBI Director James Comey with leaking national defense intelligence. Also, the FBI just raided a Beverly Hills mansion whose owner has connections to former Rep. Eric Swalwell.
As reported by the New York Post:
Former FBI Director James Comey was slapped with a fresh set of criminal charges Monday for allegedly leaking sensitive national defense information to the New York Times.
The two counts against Comey mark the third time the Department of Justice has gone after the ex-lawman and Trump administration critic since the start of President Trump’s second term.
Prosecutors accuse Comey of “knowingly and wittingly” transmitting national defense information as well as conspiring to do so in a “criminal information” filing made in the US District Court for the District of Columbia.
We’re one week out from the midterms – and right on cue, James Comey is back in the news. If there’s one person who has a knack for showing up a week or two before an election, it’s him.
What we’re finding out is that the DOJ and federal prosecutors are charging Comey with transmission of national defense information and conspiracy to transmit national defense information – charges that many thought should have been brought a long time ago, rather than other charges that might have been harder to make stick, such as “seashell gate.”
Not surprisingly, Comey’s defense team is pushing back, saying this is all just more political gameplay by the federal government.
Comey himself released a statement addressing the latest charges, presenting himself as some champion of goodness being targeted, and proclaiming that he is “still innocent,” saying:
Well, they’re back again. It would almost be funny if it weren’t such an appalling abuse of the Department of Justice, one that we cannot become numb to. Nothing’s changed with me. I’m still innocent. I’m still not afraid of these people, and I still believe in the independent federal judiciary. And I’m still lucky to have an amazing family and an incredible group of lawyers, and we’ll stand up in court and fight the latest and whatever comes after this.
The next couple of years are going to be hard for all of us. It’s really important that we stand straight. And keep the faith in America.
Now the question is whether or not Comey will manage to artfully evade these charges, or if this will prove to be a “third time’s the charm” situation for the federal government.
Meanwhile, the investigation into disgraced former Congressman Eric Swalwell seems to be ramping up, as FBI agents just conducted a raid on the Beverly Hills mansion of longtime Swalwell campaign donor, Stephen Cloobeck.
As reported by Fox News:
Federal authorities raided a California mansion belonging to billionaire Stephen Cloobeck on Tuesday morning, Fox News has learned.
The FBI targeted Cloobeck’s Beverly Hills mansion in connection with an investigation into disgraced former Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif. Swalwell resigned from Congress and withdrew from the California gubernatorial race earlier this year after facing multiple accusations of sexual misconduct.
If you remember, back in August, Swalwell was detained at the San Francisco airport. His electronic devices were seized by federal authorities, and his D.C. home was raided. Swalwell, though seemingly the frontrunner, had to suddenly drop out of the California gubernatorial race due to allegations made against him.
Of course, we also told you that Swalwell’s legal team sent a cease-and-desist letter to FBI Director Kash Patel to stop the release of records related to his relationship with Communist Chinese spy Christine Fang.
Now he finds himself under scrutiny by federal authorities. At this point, very little detail has been released as to the motivation behind the raid, other than it is related to the investigation into Swalwell.
Today’s Sekulow broadcast included more discussion of this latest round of charges being brought against former FBI Director James Comey, and what they might mean, as well as the developing story around the FBI raid of the home of a Beverly Hills billionaire in connection with the investigation of former Congressman Eric Swalwell.
