Far-Left Mayor Sides With Trump Takeover
Listen tothis article
Will miracles never cease? It appears President Donald Trump’s efforts to cut down crime in Washington, D.C., including sending in the National Guard, are paying off so undeniably well – even far-Left D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has been forced to admit that the Trump Administration’s crackdown on crime has been a success.
As reported by Fox News:
The mayor admitted at a press conference on Wednesday that the federal surge has made a noticeable impact on one of America’s most famously dangerous cities. . . .
She pointed to one dramatic example, saying, “For carjackings, the difference between this period, this 20-day period of this federal surge and last year represents an 87% reduction in carjackings in Washington, D.C. We know that when carjackings go down, when use of gun[s] goes down, when homicide or robbery go down, neighborhoods feel safer and are safer. So, this surge has been important to us for that reason.”
Mayor Bowser, who had been critical of President Trump’s actions to reduce crime in our nation’s capital – reportedly calling his plans to activate the National Guard “unsettling” –is now touting an 87% drop in carjackings. She’s talking about how the neighborhoods are safer. And she even praised the presence of federal officers for their assistance:
“This is what we think in just a couple of weeks of experience has worked,” she said. “Having more federal law enforcement officers on the street — we think having more stops that got to illegal guns has helped. We think that there is more accountability in the system, or at least perceived accountability in the system, that is driving down illegal behavior. We know that we have had fewer gun crimes, fewer homicides, and we have experienced an extreme reduction in carjackings.”
This is how politics should be conducted. You act like a grown-up, and you give credit where credit is due – even if it’s to the other side. It’s refreshing. And maybe it speaks to her listening to her constituents, the actual citizens of D.C., and not just the powerful temporary residents.
As my brother, ACLJ Executive Director Jordan Sekulow, stated:
She represents the real Washington, D.C. It’s not the headquarters for the federal government and the headquarters for all the companies in downtown D.C., and law firms and lobbyists and businesses, and defense contractors who really make up what you see when you go to Washington, D.C., maybe on a tourist visit or if you’ve worked in Washington, D.C., or have family that does. There’s that corridor that is already pretty much under federal control because those are all federal buildings. They have their own police force, the Executive branch, different forces, the Supreme Court police, the Capitol Hill police. You’ve got the Secret Service. You’ve got all these police.
A tiny percentage of Washington, D.C., and the rest of Washington, D.C., falls under Mayor Bowser. She’s got to deal with that. She doesn’t get that, so she’s now getting the benefit of what a small part of D.C. has gotten for decades, so her citizens, really the lifelong residents and families that have lived and grown up in D.C., are now getting the benefit of having the security that the kind of political side of Washington, D.C., has.
Now that we’re seeing mass success in reducing crime in D.C., will we see the same thing happen in other infamously dangerous cities like Chicago, where the mayor continues to openly defy President Trump? If I lived in one of those cities, I’d like my mayor to protect my safety, or I’d start looking for one who will.
Today’s Sekulow broadcast included more analysis of this latest update on President Trump’s work to protect the streets of Washington, D.C., and this bipartisan appreciation from the city’s mayor. We also discussed the huge legal victory we just achieved for our client, a courageous FBI agent who stood up against Deep State corruption. We also shared about three new ACLJ filings at the Supreme Court.
