Details on Resignation of Secret Service Director
Listen tothis article
After her shocking testimony before Congress yesterday, U.S. Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle has resigned. Will we get answers about the massive security failure that almost resulted in President Donald Trump losing his life?
Cheatle’s appearance yesterday was a complete disaster as she was unable to answer basic questions about everything that went wrong in Butler, Pennsylvania. For example, House Judiciary Committee Rep. Jim Jordan (OH-4) accused her of refusing to answer questions about whether the Secret Service ignored multiple requests to beef up security for President Trump prior to the assassination attempt.
In fact, the director’s testimony was so disastrous that it prompted a bipartisan effort to remove her. House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (KY-1) and House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Ranking Member Jamie Raskin (MD-8) – two Members of Congress who rarely agree on anything – sent a joint letter calling for her resignation. It’s no surprise that Cheatle finally turned in her resignation this morning.
But just because Cheatle resigned, the ACLJ won’t stop fighting to get answers about the security failures. We filed a FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) request to determine who should be held responsible. We want to ensure that all U.S. Presidents are properly protected in the future. Also, Vice President Kamala Harris has garnered enough delegates to secure the Democrat nomination for the 2024 presidential election. Her official certification as the nominee will take place virtually before August 7.
President Biden is reportedly traveling back to Washington, D.C., today from his home in Delaware. He will speak to the nation tomorrow night to address his decision to withdraw from the election. How much longer is he going to remain in office? I wouldn’t be surprised if he steps down within a couple of weeks.
Tomorrow is also significant because Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled for a joint address to Congress at 2:00 p.m. EST. Harris has already announced that she is skipping Netanyahu’s speech that will seek to solidify U.S. support for Israel. Instead of using the opportunity to show leadership, Harris will attend a Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Grand Boule. Other Democrat U.S. Congress members are also boycotting the speech. The inexcusable boycott is a slap in the face of our ally in Israel’s greatest hour of need.
Harris’ decision to bypass the speech shouldn’t shock anyone. She’s been a strong critic of Israel’s right to defend itself after the October 7 attack, and the Biden-Harris Administration has betrayed Israel repeatedly.
ACLJ Senior Counsel for International and Government Affairs Jeff Ballabon responded to Harris’ decision to miss Netanyahu’s joint address:
Joe Biden is arguably, and it’s actually hard to disagree, the worst, most anti-Israel President that’s ever been so far. So we’re talking about Harris being even worse than a President who has created what they call “daylight” or “sunlight” between Israel and America and hampered Israel while it’s trying to wage an existential war to defend itself – while it’s trying to get back its hostages, including a number of American hostages that Biden is doing nothing to help. . . . We’re talking about a potential candidate, potential leader of the Democratic Party, who is even worse than that.
As you might remember, the International Criminal Court sought an arrest warrant for Netanyahu, which is outrageous. The ACLJ was just granted the right to file a vital amicus brief before the court in defense of Israel. We have days to do so, but it could be the most important legal action the ACLJ has ever done on Israel’s behalf.
Finally, anyone who reads up on Harris’ record will discover she had the most liberal voting record in the Senate, even more so than Senator Bernie Sanders (VT). She would also be the most pro-abortion U.S. President in history – just look at the nationwide celebratory Planned Parenthood tour she conducted last year.
Conservatives should be wary of what a Harris presidency could mean for Israel and the pro-life movement.
