Former FBI Director James Comey is pleading with Deep State prosecutors to “hang on” until 2028 so they can “rebuild these institutions” at the end of President Trump’s second term.

Who and what is Comey trying to signal here?

As reported by the New York Post:

Former FBI Director James Comey taunted Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche to “bone up on the rules” as he stares down the second indictment against him and once again stood by his decision to reopen the Hillary Clinton email probe in late 2016.

Comey, who was indicted late last month for allegedly threatening to kill President Trump in a May 2025 Instagram post calling for “86 47,” chided Blanche for telling the public the case is about more than that social media post.

“I don’t talk about the case because the federal court rules require you not,” Comey told NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday. “I would urge the acting attorney general to bone up on the rules.” . . .

Comey quickly deleted the post after it ignited a firestorm.

A judge tossed out a prior indictment against Comey last year for allegedly making false statements to Congress. The DOJ slapped the second one against him last month.

The former FBI boss also slammed the Justice Department as “seriously broken at the top” but implored lower-level people to remain at the DOJ.

“I have great confidence in the people down below who are just trying to hang on. And I’m urging them, hang on,” he said. “In two and a half years, and then we can rebuild these institutions. But we need good people in those roles. America does.”

Call him the man who never seems to go away. Just recently we told you how James Comey had agreed to turn himself in to federal authorities after being indicted, once again – this time for his infamous “86 47” post on social media, perceived by many as a thinly veiled threat against President Trump. Comey has since sheepishly claimed to have never even thought it would be taken as such.

In fact, now he’s claiming his nautical display was inspired by Disney’s The Little Mermaid. It would almost be cute if it didn’t feel so disingenuous – like something his PR team fed him.

As the subject of a federal investigation, most of us in Comey’s shoes might want to lie low, prepare our case, and not open ourselves up to more scrutiny. But not Comey. He never misses an opportunity to grab some national attention.

The former head of the FBI, seemingly happiest in front of media cameras, appeared on Meet the Press, delivering what felt like a coded message to any remaining Deep State operatives within the FBI or other federal offices, perhaps just waiting for activation.

When asked if he had confidence in the people running our country at the moment, Comey stated:

I do not, looked at from the top level – the people running it. If you’re bragging about forcing out career prosecutors and agents because the President doesn’t like a lawful investigation they conducted, something is seriously broken at the top.

But I have great confidence in the people down below, who are just trying to hang on. And I’m urging them: Hang on two and a half years, and then we can rebuild these institutions. But we need good people in those roles. America does.

It seems fitting that Comey was also on the program to promote his new novel because he appears to be living in a world of fiction – one where he is some noble hero. No one in the real world wants to see the FBI returned to what it was like under Comey, and with the shenanigans we saw come out of the FBI under his leadership. Not least of which are the strange political games he seemed to be playing just before the 2016 election, which he’s also still out there defending.

I have to ask: What is he truly angling for? What did he mean by “We” can rebuild the FBI? Is it possible that Comey is considering a run for the White House?

After all, he is only 65. Under the right circumstances, Comey could still have a political future ahead of him if he wanted, even despite the controversies. Although personally, unlike the aforementioned mermaid, I can’t see a Comey presidential run developing any legs. But he is still qualified, at least for now, to make that run.

Could he be hinting that if he were to become President Comey, he could “rebuild those institutions?” I’m not so sure I’d want to be a part of that world.

Today’s Sekulow broadcast included more analysis of Comey’s latest appearance on Meet the Press and his curious message to those “down below.”  We also discussed the latest news in Iran.
