Radical Left Pushes Bill to EXPAND Supreme Court
House Democrats are actively pushing a bill to expand the Supreme Court and fill it with leftist, socialist Justices.
Just as we expected, almost immediately after the historic Supreme Court ruling that overturned Roe v. Wade, the radical Left is scrambling once again to pack the Court with more liberal Justices to bend the Judicial Branch to its agenda.
Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA), Rep. Ed Markey (D-MA), and Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) have proposed a bill entitled the Judiciary Act of 2021 that would increase the Supreme Court by four Justices to make the final number thirteen. It’s amazing how with a 6-3 conservative-leaning Court that they somehow came up with the magic number of four, which would lead to four more Left-leaning Justices and a 7-6 liberal majority. How convenient.
The Left is essentially behaving like a child that didn’t get its way. It’s throwing a tantrum and trying to change the entire institution of the Court to work in its favor.
The whole reason Supreme Court Justices receive a lifetime appointment is so that the Court is not swayed by the political landscape of the day. The Supreme Court is dedicated to upholding the law. It was never meant to be political. But the Left is playing politics to weaponize the Court, regardless of the law.
The last attempt to increase the Supreme Court was President Franklin Roosevelt in 1937 and as you probably guessed, the move failed. And back when he was Senator, even President Joe Biden himself called Roosevelt’s move to pack the Court a “bonehead idea” and a “terrible, terrible mistake to make and it put in question for an entire decade the independence of the most significant body, including the Congress in my view, the most significant body in this country, the Supreme Court of the United States of America.”
Never before have we agreed so strongly with the words of Joe Biden.
Unfortunately the rest of his party has a different opinion, given that they are openly discussing court packing, using that exact term. The term, court packing, used to have a negative connotation in regard to the judicial system since it’s literally just stacking the deck with agreeable Justices who agree with your political ideology, rather than qualified, deserving, unbiased Justices. In other words, cheating. Even the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, who has taken on an almost sainted legacy among the Left, rejected the idea of packing the Court, saying:
If anything would make the court appear partisan it would be that. One side saying when we’re in power we’re going to enlarge the number of judges so we’ll have more people who will vote the way we want them to. So I am not at all in favor of that solution to what I see as a temporary situation.
The Left needs to heed the words of Justice Ginsberg, who summed it up precisely: “Nine seems to be a good number, and it’s been that way for a long time.”
I also spoke to ACLJ Senior Advisor for Global Affairs Mike Pompeo about President Biden’s trip to the Middle East last week as well as the news we reported on yesterday that Iran now has the capability to build a nuclear bomb. Sec. Pompeo shared his expert analysis on what can be done at this point to stop Iran from actually building – and using – a nuclear weapon:
The first thing you have to do is starve them of the resources that they need. What is that? That’s the ability to trade, the ability to create wealth, to pay scientists, to purchase the things they need. We sanctioned them in ways that really put pressure on the regime and slowed down their capability to build up these exact nuclear programs.
The second thing you have to do is you have to be prepared to engage in activities that create risk for them. We did this. I did it when I was CIA Director working alongside Middle Eastern intelligence agencies.
And then you have to be prepared to make it clear [to Iran] that it is unacceptable for [them] to actually have a weapon or a weapons program and all that that portends. I was happy – the only happy note struck – was when President Biden said that he would not remove the military option from the table. The sad part of it is, I don’t think anybody believes him. I don’t think anybody thinks that it is actually credible that President Biden would support Israel and the Arab nations in ensuring that Iran never got a nuclear weapon. They knew for four years that we would but that confidence, that trust, is absolutely gone today.
Once again, this is why we’re always saying elections have consequences. Less than halfway through his first term, President Biden has abandoned Afghanistan to the Taliban, betrayed Christians in Nigeria, created a complete human rights crisis at our border with Mexico – allowing known terrorists to stream into the United States, allowed Iran to obtain the necessary resources for a nuclear weapon, and insulted our greatest ally in the Middle East, the State of Israel.
And now the Left is trying to hijack the third branch of government, the Judicial Branch. It has to stop.
