Backfire: Senate Hearing Exposes the Left
Listen tothis article
The hostile Senate confirmation hearings for President Donald Trump’s Cabinet are still underway as the Senate vets Pam Bondi for U.S. Attorney General and Senator Marco Rubio for Secretary of State. (Pete Hegseth’s confirmation hearing, which was interrupted by radical protesters, was yesterday.)
Also on full display again is the hypocrisy of far-Left Senators. Yesterday Senator Mazie Hirono (HI) aggressively interrogated Hegseth, and today she went after Bondi. Each of these nominees was made available to U.S. Senators before the hearings. And instead of doing homework before the hearings, some Senators just want their 15 minutes of fame grilling nominees. Bondi reminded Hirono that she was, in fact, the only Senator who refused to meet with her.
Sen. Hirono also pressed Bondi on whether President Trump would prosecute political opponents. Bondi pointed out to Sen. Hirono that most Americans have lost faith in the DOJ because of its weaponization in recent years. Of course, the ACLJ knows about this lack of trust, as we are representing an FBI agent who exposed the FBI’s corruption in targeting Christians and parents at school board meetings.
Also, don’t forget that, reportedly, President Biden was upset at AG Merrick Garland for not going after President Trump hard enough. For Hirono to act like the Biden DOJ hasn’t been prosecuting political opponents is ridiculous.
Bondi promised: “If I am confirmed as Attorney General, it will be my job to not only keep Americans safe, but restore integrity to that department, that’s what I plan on doing every single day as Attorney General.” Will she be able to restore faith in our Justice Department?
Regarding Rubio’s confirmation hearing, he has grilled Cabinet nominees before, so he knew what was coming. Notably, before the hearing started, he sounded the alarm on the threat of China:
If we stay on the road we’re on right now, [in] less than 10 years, virtually everything that matters to us in life will depend on whether China will allow us to have it or not. Everything from the blood pressure medicine we take to what movies we get to watch and everything in between – we will depend on China for it.
Rubio has long been at the forefront of calling out the threats of China and other global adversaries. We must protect U.S. interests by promoting strength on the world stage.
While on the air, the news broke that Israel and Hamas have reached a ceasefire to end the war in Gaza. President Trump immediately posted on Truth Social: “WE HAVE A DEAL FOR THE HOSTAGES IN THE MIDDLE EAST. THEY WILL BE RELEASED SHORTLY. THANK YOU!” Undoubtedly, the ceasefire was influenced by Trump’s recent threats that there would be “all hell to pay” if Hamas didn’t release the hostages before Inauguration Day.
ACLJ Senior Counsel for International and Government Affairs Jeff Ballabon reacted to the news of the ceasefire:
Well, I think that the reaction you’re seeing has less to do with the end of a war and more to do with the return of hostages. And I don’t know that this war is going to end anytime soon. I think that the ceasefire – even with the agreement they have in Lebanon – Israel still is waging an on-and-off war in Lebanon because Lebanon (Hezbollah) keeps on breaching the ceasefire. And Israel has to keep on going in. And so the good news is that Israel is going to retain its rights to operate and keep on fighting against those inevitable ceasefire breaks. Remember, there was a ceasefire on October 6 that was broken on October 7 last year. And so, we’re dealing with terrorist organizations; obviously, they’re not to be trusted at all.
The ACLJ has been instrumental in saving Israeli hostages since the horrific events of October 7. Our legal team has represented several family members of the Israeli hostages. We are hopeful that the remaining hostages could be released imminently. We continue to keep Israel in our prayers.
