46th March for Life: Today We March – Every Day We Fight for Life
Today, January 18, 2019, is the 46th Annual March for Life, and I along with several others from the ACLJ will be in attendance. Now it is more important than ever to stand for the rights of those unborn babies who can’t defend themselves.
As we have explained before, the March for life is the world’s largest pro-life event. It is an opportunity every year for those who value the sanctity of life to show unity in their convictions, and to let their voices be heard en masse. Often, the weather is cold and hostile; not unlike the minds and hearts that these marchers hope will someday be changed. Today will be one of those colder days.
Yet, we march to show the world that there are many of us who value life. We march to show each other that we are not alone. We march to commemorate the thousands and thousands of lives of little babies that have been taken because abortion is legal.
While we march today, we aggressively fight for life every day. We continue our legal work to end abortion, to protect women and babies, and to refute the lies that distort the true value of human life.
This last year, we here at the ACLJ continued to be actively engaged in pro-life work.
For instance, just a few weeks ago, we submitted a public comment in support of a new pro-life rule proposed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to close some of the abortion funding loopholes in ObamaCare.
We voiced our disgust for Planned Parenthood and pro-abortion advocates who brag about abortion to vulnerable young children. We won a case at the Supreme Court, protecting pro-life pregnancy centers from being forced to advertise state-funded abortions. We submitted a friend-of-the-court brief at the Supreme Court in the case of Box v. Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky, asking the Court to uphold Indiana law that requires the humane disposition of the remains of aborted babies, and prohibits abortions based on the unborn child’s race, sex, or disability. We filed a lawsuit in federal court in Iowa challenging a state statute that infringes upon the right of individuals to advocate for the lives of the unborn.
These are just a few examples of the many ways in which we have been engaged in the battle for the unborn. And they are just a few examples of the ways in which we will continue to fight – marching on to protect the most innocent and the most vulnerable.
I encourage you to join the March for Life, in body, or in spirit. I encourage you to act on your convictions and to let your voice be heard. Let others know that you, too, value life and will fight to protect it.
