Vice President Vance Responds Following Pope’s Passing

Vice President JD Vance is thankful he could meet with Pope Francis on Easter Sunday before he passed. Even though Pope Francis was an outspoken critic of the Trump Administration, Vance still respected the Pope’s leadership in the Catholic Church.
I just learned of the passing of Pope Francis. My heart goes out to the millions of Christians all over the world who loved him.
I was happy to see him yesterday, though he was obviously very ill. But I’ll always remember him for the below homily he gave in the very early days of COVID. It was really quite beautiful.
May God rest his soul.
The Catholic Church will participate in nine days of mourning and then begin the process of choosing a new Pope.
The Pope’s death comes at a time when it appears that Christianity is resurging in the West. I was in London recently, where I noticed a dramatic shift away from the dark secularism that has epitomized Europe in recent years.
The Barna Group released a State of the Church 2025study on Christianity, with the surprising headline: “New Research: Belief in Jesus Rises, Fueled by Younger Adults.” In the past four years, 66% of adults in America “have made a personal commitment to Jesus that is still important in their life today,” an increase of 12%. Notably, in 2021, the public commitments to Jesus had reached their lowest point since the ’90s.
And even the most surprising is the increase in Christian commitments coming from Gen Z and Millennial Americans – mostly young men. Younger Christians are longing for some form of truth to anchor themselves to.
I pray that this newfound commitment to Jesus will continue to grow in America and Europe. We need a true revival in the West.
And to be sure, the Biden Administration noticed this revival among evangelical Christians. That’s why it sent the FBI to spy on Christian congregations to keep tabs on what they were teaching. The ACLJ filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit to stop this unconstitutional targeting.
Right now the mainstream media is going after Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth after a second Signal chat was leaked to the press. The media is calling on him to resign, yet the Trump Administration voiced its staunch support of Hegseth, casting blame on Deep State actors within the Pentagon: “This is what happens when the entire Pentagon is working against you and working against the monumental change you are trying to implement.”
ACLJ Senior Advisor for National Security and Foreign Policy Ric Grenell reacted to the media’s attempt to oust Hegseth:
It feels exactly like the first term, which is exactly what I was thinking. This used to be a thing, right? The media would go after somebody, and then there would be panic, and usually, they’re going after people who are effective. In Pete’s case, they’ve never really let up. They just keep going after him. . . . President Trump doesn’t focus on that. He’s not reading The New York Times or The Washington Post. . . . Pete just needs to stay focused on doing his job. He’s doing a great job. The fact that he’s losing some staffers is irrelevant, honestly. There are so many people who want to work there, who want to work for Pete. He’ll have a pick of people.
The Deep State is still undoubtedly entrenched within the Department of Defense. Don’t forget that via a FOIA request, we uncovered how the Biden U.S. Army had been training soldiers at Fort Bragg to label pro-life organizations and drivers with “Choose Life” license plates as terrorists.
Recently, the Army responded to our FOIA, stating the labeling of terrorists was just a “mistake” instead of addressing the issue head-on about pro-lifers being labeled terrorists. At the very least, it sure looks like the Army isn’t sorry; it’s just sorry it got caught. Now that we’re investigating, it’s looking worse and worse.
We are preparing a letter to Secretary Hegseth, urging him to hold the Army accountable by taking swift, decisive action to truly get to the bottom of this outrageous targeting of pro-lifers. It must stop immediately.
