President Donald Trump jokingly told Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that his country should consider becoming the 51st state if he won’t improve the U.S. trade deficit with Canada or stop the influx of illegal immigration across the northern border. Trump argued that a porous northern border has resulted in drugs and illegal immigrants from 70 countries flooding the U.S. and that the trade deficit with Canada is at an untenable $100 billion.

The conversation arose while Trump hosted Trudeau at his Mar-a-Lago estate. The incoming President said he would impose a 25% tariff on Canadian goods if Trudeau didn’t change course. Trump has also threatened a similar tariff on Mexico if it doesn’t improve southern border security.

Further, Trump announced that there “will be hell to pay” if Hamas doesn’t release all the hostages by January 20 – likely reacting to the Hamas propaganda video with an American hostage that was just released. He’s not going to put up with American or Jewish hostages continuing to be in harm’s way: “Those responsible will be hit harder than anybody has been hit in the long and storied History of the United States of America. RELEASE THE HOSTAGES NOW!”

Roughly two months before he takes office, Trump is sending a message to the world. Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo reacted to Trump’s recent statements about foreign policy:

The whole world is on notice that what’s been happening for the last four years – weakness, folks walking all over America, wars breaking out in different places . . . the President is signaling that it’s going to be back to where we were four years ago when President Trump was in office previously. Where there’s serious American leadership that will protect American interests, that will do the right thing for the American people. And when we do that, we’ll have great partners and friends around the world.

Trump is announcing that a new sheriff is in town. During his Administration, the U.S. won’t be bullied by neighboring countries.

I also have a big ACLJ victory to inform you about. As we’ve told you, we began representing the parents of a teenage girl who was forced to read a pornographic monologue in a theater class at a public school. When the girl’s mother tried to read the same monologue at a school board meeting, her microphone was shut off. So her teenage daughter could be forced to read the obscene monologue in class, but her mother couldn’t read it at a school board meeting?

The ACLJ sprang into action to defend the teenage girl and her mother. We filed a lawsuit against the Nevada school district to protect the rights of students and their parents. Parents have an absolute right to know what their children are being taught, and children should never be subjected to obscene material, particularly in an environment meant to educate and nurture.

After significant testimony was revealed in depositions, the Nevada school district settled with us, affirming the rights of parents and students in the face of inappropriate educational content. The court has now entered an order memorializing the settlement and ending the case. This case underscores parents’ crucial role in advocating for their children’s welfare and the need for schools to respect and uphold parental rights.

The fight is not over, though. We are dedicated to ensuring that classrooms are safe environments and that parental rights are upheld. We need parents to stay informed and stand up for their children.

Today, which is Giving Tuesday, is your opportunity to donate to help fund our fight to protect the faith and freedom of students and school parents across America. All gifts are doubled before our Giving Tuesday deadline.

Today’s Sekulow broadcast included a full analysis of Trump’s suggestion to Trudeau that Canada could become the 51st state. ACLJ Senior Counsel for International and Government Affairs Jeff Ballabon reacted to Trump’s edict to Hamas to release the hostages. ACLJ Senior Managing Counsel Christy Compagnone highlighted our victory for parental rights in Nevada.
