Mayor Zohran Mamdani was booed yesterday at a New York City memorial honoring the October 7 victims. Radical-Left protesters heckled Mamdani from behind police barricades and called him a “traitor.”

As reported in the New York Post:

Mayor Zohran Mamdani was berated and booed at an Oct. 7 candlelight vigil in Union Square on Wednesday night by anti-Israel protesters who believe he turned his back on Palestinian causes.

Hizzoner, with a candle in hand, was heckled by the angry mob, including some waving Hamas and Hezbollah flags, who marched from City Hall to crash the event meant to honor Jewish victims killed by Hamas terrorists — and Palestinians in the subsequent war.

The hecklers accused Mamdani of supporting “genocide” and supporting the “sale of stolen land” and even reportedly warned, “Zohran you can’t hide.”

Who would have guessed that the man who would be king of the radical socialist Leftists isn’t radical enough?

In the roughly 10 months he’s been in office, Mamdani has made it abundantly clear he’s no friend of Israel. He’s already threatened to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu (until he realized he couldn’t).

And this week he posted a statement on the anniversary of October 7 that spent more ink demonizing Israel and bemoaning the suffering of Gazans than it did memorializing the Israeli victims:

The suffering did not begin nor end that day. It instead continued through the Israeli government’s devastating, ongoing genocide in Gaza, in which it has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians—including more than 21,000 children. Even since the so-called ceasefire, more than 1,400 Palestinians have been killed.

Mamdani even made a point to blame America as well, writing: “Many New Yorkers are reckoning with this unbearable grief, and we mourn alongside them – all while knowing that our tax dollars fund these war crimes.”

We have an article up at ACLJ.org talking about why words matter in times like these and calls out Mayor Mamdani’s dangerous choice of words to describe October 7 and the violence in the Middle East since. His statement sounds sympathetic to Israel at first but subtly unravels into an indictment.

And yet, apparently, even that wasn’t good enough. According to these twisted protesters, Mamdani didn’t come down hard enough on Israel, which, in their eyes, apparently makes him a supporter of Israel and a traitor. It’s truly absurd.

What do these demonstrators want from Mamdani? He clearly believes Israel’s response to Hamas was much worse than the horrific attacks on innocent Israelis, yet he still didn’t appease the radical Left because he dared to show a drop of solidarity with the victims. The angry mob still came for him.

Before this week Mamdani was their poster boy. From the look on his face, he didn’t enjoy being on the receiving end of their vitriol. How will the mayor respond?

Today’s Sekulow broadcast included more discussion of Mayor Mamdani’s unpleasant night at the vigil for the victims of October 7, where he was booed and verbally attacked by radical-Leftist demonstrators. We also spoke with ACLJ Senior Counsel CeCe Heil with a bittersweet update on a major case we’ve been fighting to save the life of a Pakistani Christian sentenced to hang for blasphemy. Senator Bill Hagerty (TN) joined us in studio to break down the 2026 midterm elections.
