President Trump Reveals Details of High-Stakes Meeting
Listen tothis article
President Donald Trump just revealed a high-stakes meeting with President Vladimir Putin, possibly next week. He also plans to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky and Putin together shortly thereafter. Is a ceasefire to the Russia-Ukraine war on the horizon?
As reported in the New York Times:
President Trump intends to meet in person with President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia as soon as next week, and he plans to follow up shortly afterward with a meeting between himself, Mr. Putin and President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine, according to two people familiar with the plan.
Mr. Trump disclosed his plans on Wednesday in a call with European leaders, which included Mr. Zelensky, the people said. The meetings would include only the three men, and would not include European counterparts.
Asked later Wednesday if Russia and Ukraine had agreed to the summit, Mr. Trump told reporters: “There’s a very good prospect that they will.”
We’re roughly three years into the war between Russia and Ukraine, and yesterday there were finally meetings between American and Russian officials, which looked like a positive step. Trump said he plans on sitting down with the two leaders himself, and it appears it may happen sooner than later – and not through proxies. We can only hope this meeting happens soon and that it creates a successful path to the end of the war.
President Trump ran on this issue. Of course, at the time, he said he could end the Russia-Ukraine war in 24 hours. Obviously, he was using creative license, but the sentiment was sincere. But now it seems President Trump has realized that he’s dealing with a different Putin this time around. A more driven, antagonistic Putin, perhaps.
But for a little perspective, both sides in the Ukraine-Russia war must be exhausted. The losses of life and precious resources have taken their toll. And the world seems to have lost interest, which isn’t helping either cause. Maybe that’s why this time, it feels like we may finally be headed toward some sort of resolution. Only time will tell, and we’ll continue to keep you updated as information becomes available.
On today’s broadcast, we also discussed some news out of Israel and comments made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as to whether he wants to end the war by essentially taking over Gaza.
Jeff Ballabon, head of the ACLJ Jerusalem, joined us from New York City to share his thoughts on Netanyahu now being more vocal and being at least a bit more transparent with his plans and what that could mean, in terms of how Israel could take control of Gaza. Especially since President Trump, whom we know has vacillated on this issue because it’s an aggressive plan, seems to have an interest in it.
Israel often plays defense, not understanding what’s available to it. If Israel thinks that if it only gives it a little more, if it only says it will negotiate and tries negotiating, then maybe there’ll be some resolution. And they’re willing to give up even parts of the Jewish homeland for that purpose. But after October 7, Israel realizes that it cannot. What it doesn’t know is how open the U.S. – its strongest, most important ally – is to what really needs to happen, which is that Israel needs to control Gaza completely. And frankly, there’s a very hostile population there that’s more than just Hamas. We know that of the thousands of people who crossed the border on October 7, only a small number were Hamas. And the truth is this should no longer be Israel’s problem.
There is a very violent, very large Arab population that wants to destroy all of Israel. Frankly, when Donald Trump first became President, his first trip to the region – his first trip outside of America – was to react to the Saudis and to all the Arab world, and he said, You need to stop the terrorism. And then he went to Israel to celebrate Jerusalem’s reunification. That has to be the model. This problem must be resolved by the Arab-Muslim world, not by the American world, not by Europe, and certainly not by the Jews in Israel.
It’s worth noting that Prime Minister Netanyahu also stated clearly that, while Israel intends to control all of Gaza, it has no intention to keep it or attempt to rule it, and that Israel will hand Gaza over to Arab forces that will govern it properly.
Today’s Sekulow broadcast included more analysis of the current situation unfolding in Russia and Ukraine, as well as Netanyahu’s comments about Israel’s plans. We also updated you about shocking police training materials that labeled Moms for Liberty, a parents’ rights advocacy organization, as a hate group. It’s as absurd as it sounds.
