After a flurry of threats between both sides, President Trump insists that an Iran peace deal is “imminent.”

As reported by Fox News:

President Donald Trump said Sunday that a deal with Iran over the Strait of Hormuz and its nuclear program is near while claiming competing factions inside the Iranian regime remain divided.

“The deal is imminent, having to do with the Hormuz Strait and also, ultimately, the denuclearization of Iran,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One.

So yet again the President is saying that we have a peace deal on the table. Or at least, a deal is getting close.

This comes after President Trump issued the threat of a bombing that would have been “the biggest attack since World War II.” Many people are starting to think this threat and others like it have been the President’s version of negotiating in plain sight, or negotiation by press. Trump makes these threats, which seem to turn into negotiation talking points.

And the next thing we know, talks start up again, the military stands down, and we possibly have a deal in play. Until, of course, Iran violates the agreement.

There is a question of whether it’s good for the American people to have this constant back-and-forth playing out in the public square. Does it show strength for the United States to make these big threats and then to back off at the last minute when the Iranians decide they want to talk again?

Some could argue that it is a sign that the threats work – at least that they scare the Iranian regime enough to come back to the table. But the problem is we’ve seen Iran repeatedly violate whatever agreement they just made.

President Trump had this to say on Truth Social:

Iranian Leadership is unbelievably duplicitous! They ask for a meeting, some would say “beg,” talks begin, with more scheduled in the immediate future, and they say, openly and proudly, that they’re not having any discussions, that nothing is being talked about, and they’re only dealing with “Oman.” They then go on to give their usual blather in saying, the Strait of Hormuz will be operated powerfully by them, when it is already completely controlled by the United States Navy and our “Blockade” or, as some say, “The United States Wall of Steel!” Nothing gets through to Iran, unless we want it to, and nothing will get through, unless a Deal, or Total Surrender, is accomplished. Whether Iran wants to admit it or not, we are, in fact, talking of a solution to a problem that they have caused, for decades. It is very simple, IRAN WILL NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON!

It’s a continual circle of deception from Iran, and it will most likely continue this way until there’s a completely different leadership in place. We’ve reached the point where solid decisions have to be made – and stuck to.

In ACLJ-related news, ACLJ Associate Counsel Liam Harrell provided an update on our federal lawsuit against the city of Chicago, filed on behalf of street preachers we’re representing who were arrested and cited under the city’s noise ordinance while sharing the Gospel and a pro-life message. We got the bogus criminal charges dismissed, but filed a federal lawsuit to end the targeting for good.

After we beat back the city’s motion to dismiss and moved into discovery, Chicago has stonewalled our requests for internal records – records we believe will show a pattern of targeting religious speech, not neutral enforcement.

After months of back-and-forth with the city’s attorneys, we filed a motion to compel on Friday, asking the court to order Chicago to turn over what it’s been withholding. We will keep you posted on any new developments in this case.

Today’s Sekulow broadcast included more analysis of President Trump’s announcement that a deal with Iran may finally be close. And additional analysis on our major religious liberty lawsuit against the city of Chicago.
