President Trump Faces Massive Protest
Listen tothis article
President Donald Trump will address a joint session of Congress and the nation tonight. Trump is calling it the “The Renewal of the American Dream” speech, and though technically not a State of the Union address, it might as well be. He will likely list the White House’s accomplishments with DOGE cutting wasteful spending; ICE raids and securing the southern border; the tariff battles with Mexico, Canada, and China; and the current negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
And as expected, Axios reports that many far-Left lawmakers plan to protest the speech. One unidentified Member of Congress stated: “The part that we all agree on is that this is not business as usual and we would like to find a way — productively — to express our outrage.” Many plan to boycott the speech, and some might even walk out. Others will use props to show their disgust: egg cartons, noisemakers (like kazoos?), red cards, and hand clappers.
Yes, that’s right: egg cartons to reference the price of eggs and red cards to signify that they’re the referees. While the lawmakers might think they’re being clever, it honestly comes off pretty lame and silly. It feels like Nancy Pelosi is still involved. (She pulled some ridiculous stunts during Trump’s earlier State of the Union addresses.) So some things never change.
In ACLJ-related news, we told you how we successfully defended a street preacher, Brett Raio, who was arrested for sharing the Gospel in Chicago. Our legal team got his case thrown out the morning it was supposed to go to trial.
Unfortunately, Chicago is still cracking down on street preachers, and we are now defending two of Brett’s friends, Reetik and Perez, who were arrested under similar circumstances. In fact, they were both jailed for six hours.
This alarming development demonstrates a pattern of enforcement that disregards well-established constitutional protections. The fact that more street preachers are being arrested for peacefully expressing their beliefs indicates that the issue is far from resolved.
If the city is intent on continuing to silence street preachers through unlawful arrests, this could have broad implications for free speech – not just for religious speakers, but for anyone engaging in public expression.
The ACLJ is representing the two clients free of charge to ensure justice is served. And we are preparing to file a lawsuit against the city of Chicago to prevent further violations of free speech for street preachers.
We need your generous support to defend Christians’ free speech. To join us in defending street preachers, donate to our Life & Liberty Drive – gifts are doubled. Also, be sure to sign our petition to defeat the Left’s war against Christians.
Today’s Sekulow broadcast included a full analysis of the planned protest of multiple far-Left Members of Congress during President Trump’s evening address. ACLJ Senior Counsel for International and Government Affairs Jeff Ballabon also called on evangelical Christians to support Israel.
