Official: Big Trouble for James Comey and John Brennan
Listen tothis article
A Fox News report has revealed a massive investigation into former FBI Director James Comey and former CIA Director John Brennan for possibly lying to Congress about President Donald Trump and the Russian hoax.
The investigation stems from a July 2 declassification of 2016 election documents by current CIA Director John Ratcliffe. He had ordered a “tradecraft review” of the 2016 investigation into the Russian hoax.
Upon completion of the review, the CIA “identified multiple procedural anomalies in the preparation of the 2016 Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA), such as a compressed timeline, uneven access to compartmented information, marginalization of the National Intelligence Council, and excessive involvement of agency heads.” In other words, Ratcliffe saw something in the documents that disturbed him enough to raise concerns about potential criminal activity involving Comey and Brennan.
My dad, ACLJ Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow, lived through the Russian hoax, and he served as President Trump’s legal counsel during the impeachment proceedings. He reacted to the latest discovery:
This is long overdue. The question’s going to be: Is there an action that took place within the statute of limitations? That would then justify going from a criminal investigation to a criminal prosecution. We know the entire issue of the Steele Dossier, and the way they tried to basically shake down the then-President-elect of the United States. We now know, of course, with the evidence that we gathered during the course of the impeachment proceedings and the Mueller investigation, we know there was no violation of any law by the President. We also know there was no collusion between the Russian government and the Trump campaign – that was the conclusion of Bob Mueller.
Now, here’s the issue that is important: James Comey oversaw the FBI at a critical time. It was during “Crossfire Hurricane,” which was the first investigation we now know of the sitting President of the United States, or then the President-elect (and also the candidate). Remember, though, once he was elected President in 2016, it was James Comey, the FBI, John Brennan, and these others who decided that they would meet with President-elect Trump and brief him on the discredited dossier. It was a shakedown. That’s what it was. It was an attempt to intimidate the President. It was a move to try to curtail the President’s initiatives by distraction.
At the end of the day, our country can’t abide rogue CIA and FBI directors criminally undermining a sitting U.S. President. It’s outrageous that such Deep State tactics were used to the extent of impeachment.
I asked my dad what the legal consequences could be for Comey and Brennan. He responded:
We should not hear about the investigation while it’s ongoing. What we should hear is the conclusion of the investigation if the Department of Justice decides to make a move for a grand jury impaneling and then a prosecution. Do I think there’s evidence of it to move forward? I think there’s certainly enough to take it to the investigatory stage. I suspect that there will be enough for the investigative stage to merge or morph into a prosecutorial stage. And then, of course, ultimately a trial. But they . . . tried to stop the government of the United States from operating according to the Constitution of the United States. So you bet they should be held accountable.
Comey and Brennan have been attempting to take down President Trump for a decade. In doing so, they may have violated federal law and could face severe consequences.
I also have a wild update on the ongoing efforts to defund Planned Parenthood. As we told you yesterday, an Obama-appointed Massachusetts federal judge issued a two-week temporary restraining order (TRO) on Planned Parenthood being defunded by provisions in Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill.” (Our ACLJ lawyers immediately began looking into the case and are preparing an amicus brief.)
However, the Planned Parenthood attorneys filed yesterday, asking that the TRO be extended even further to delay the preliminary injunction hearing. Why? Because one of its nine lawyers has a scheduling conflict.
However, the attorneys representing the Trump Administration said the judge should instead expedite the process – and that’s exactly what the judge did. The hearing has been rescheduled for three days earlier.
Planned Parenthood is on the ropes right now. Sign our petition to defeat Planned Parenthood in court and make a donation during our 35 Years of Justice Drive. Your gifts are doubled and will help save the unborn.
