The Democrat Party is in an uproar after U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens endorsed Republican candidate Mike Rogers rather than candidate Abdul El-Sayed for the U.S. Senate seat in Michigan.

Many on the Left are criticizing Stevens for switching sides, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who called it a “despicable betrayal.” CNN’s Anderson Cooper called Stevens’ answers “frustrating” during an interview.

As reported by Fox News:

Rep. Haley Stevens, a Democrat who narrowly lost Michigan’s Senate primary to Abdul El-Sayed, endorsed Republican Mike Rogers on Sunday—less than 48 hours before Election Day.

Stevens had previously said she supported El-Sayed, but backed Rogers after being uninvited from a planned joint campaign appearance with her former primary rival.

“Our Democratic nominee for Senate said I was no longer welcome on his campaign and that I should stay away,” Stevens said in a video announcing her endorsement. “And he’s right. And that’s why I am endorsing Mike Rogers for the United States Senate today.”

So Haley Stevens, who ran a very close race against Abdul El-Sayed in the Michigan’s Democrat Senate primary, was supposed to attend an event at a Detroit church with El Sayed and Congressman James Clyburn (SC-6), who has become something of a far-Left kingmaker. Clyburn planned this appearance as a unity event, with the idea of presenting the two former opponents now joined together.

And then there was some bickering back and forth between El-Sayed and Stevens on X and through various other public statements, all stemming from an ad that was put out by the Left-wing commentators the Young Turks. El-Sayed tried to distance himself from the ad – but refused to fully condemn it – which showed people in a grocery store unable to buy eggs. Because, according to the ad, that money was needed to kill Palestinian children.

It was disgusting. It was an evil, antisemitic fallacy being weaponized in a political ad by radical Leftists.

El-Sayed wouldn’t denounce it, so Stevens took her support away, and instead showed up at a different church event with Mike Rogers, and she put her full endorsement behind him.

And the result was an immediate and spectacular crash-out by the far Left like we haven’t seen in a while. Top far-Left figures like former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Schumer fully lost it, condemning Stevens as though she is the worst evil they can imagine. Not Hamas, mind you, but Haley Stevens, who had the nerve to put country over party and denounce antisemitism.

And to her credit, it was a bold move. She could have just said, I’m pulling my endorsement from El-Sayed for personal reasons, but people should vote their own conscience. But Stevens chose to cross the aisle and endorsed the guy on the other side, because at least he doesn’t support gross antisemitic advertisements, nor has he refused to disavow the Muslim Brotherhood.

Now Stevens’ own party has turned on her, as it usually does whenever a member tries to voice a differing opinion from the liberal hive collective.

U.S. Special Presidential Envoy Ric Grenell joined us on the broadcast and shared his reaction to the surprise 180 by Stevens and the meltdown of her party:

What we saw this weekend with Democrats completely attacking Haley Stevens for having a different view, for stepping away from the groupthink – and really, it’s a personal religious view on her part where she can’t support this guy – I think it was courageous, but boy, did we see a meltdown from the Left. The party that is supposed to be about acceptance and diverse opinions completely melted down because there was a diverse opinion.

And I can’t believe how many people were attacking her with kind of this female gender criteria and bringing in her fiancé as somebody who easily influenced her. This is a sitting Congresswoman who’s been pretty tough on a lot of issues, and she’s not a Republican; she’s a proud Democrat. She just happens to have one issue where she disagrees with the Democrats, and everyone from Chuck Schumer to Nancy Pelosi to Hakeem Jeffries just came down on her like a ton of bricks. I’m concerned that the Democrat Party is demanding groupthink, that they are no longer the party that allows there to be a give-and-take, and, Let me hear from you and let me listen to your views. That is gone, and we saw that this weekend.

While we certainly have our disagreements with Stevens politically, we applaud her courage for standing up against antisemitism and pulling her endorsement from El-Sayed. We’ve seen what happens to far-Left candidates who dared take a different tack from the party line, such as our friend and former colleague Tulsi Gabbard, and sadly, it appears Stevens is currently finding out as well.

Today’s Sekulow broadcast included more analysis of the election chaos among the far Left now that Haley Stevens has pulled her endorsement away from Abdul El-Sayed and instead endorsed candidate Mike Rogers, and how it might impact tomorrow’s Michigan election.
