The eyes of the nation are closely watching the results of the California gubernatorial primary race to replace Governor Gavin Newsom (former HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra, Tom Steyer, or Steve Hilton) and the mayoral primary race (Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, Nithya Raman, or Spencer Pratt).

Keep in mind that it’s a jungle primary in California, which means that the top two winners of the primary advance, regardless of political party. Usually in California, two far-Left candidates easily win the primary, but today’s narrative is different, with Steve Hilton and Spencer Pratt representing conservative voters in tightly contested primaries.

U.S. Special Presidential Envoy Ric Grenell, a California resident, gave his insights on Los Angeles’ mayoral primary:

You either vote to continue what’s happening in Los Angeles because you believe we’re on the right path, or you vote to say we’re not on the right path, things are not going well, and let’s try something new and different. And I think that’s where most people are. I can’t imagine anyone voting to say that Karen Bass has done such a great job that she deserves reelection. I mean, we literally didn’t have water in our fire hydrants. So that seems to me something that’s pretty basic. But there’s a machine in Los Angeles that is telling people through unions and through other mechanisms that you should just vote for the Democrat. It’s really robotic in terms of always voting for the Democrat, no matter what, and we really have to have people who are willing to think and not just pull a lever that they’re traditionally pulling.

For the first time in a long time, the California and Los Angeles races are competitive and have truly become a national story. Will California stay the course or vote for change? We’ll find out tonight when all the votes come in.

Today’s Sekulow broadcast included a full analysis of the primary races in California.
