If you’ve been following the headlines lately, you’ve probably noticed something missing: accountability. It’s one of those words that gets tossed around in Washington like confetti — but when it comes time for anyone in power to be held accountable, suddenly everyone forgets what it means.

Fortunately, federal lawmakers are finally giving former Special Counsel Jack Smith a much-needed refresher course on what being held accountable for one’s own actions means by demanding he come in and testify before Congress over his politically charged probe of President Trump. And while he’s at it, they are demanding he bring any pertinent documents with him.

As it was reported on Fox News:

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, is seeking testimony from former special counsel Jack Smith about what he says were Smith’s "partisan and politically motivated" prosecutions of President Donald Trump.

Jordan told Smith on Tuesday in a letter first obtained by Fox News Digital to schedule an interview with his committee by Oct. 28. The move comes at the same time congressional Republicans have been raising alarm over the recent revelation that Smith subpoenaed phone records of sitting senators.

"As the Committee continues its oversight, your testimony is necessary to understand the full extent to which the Biden-Harris Justice Department weaponized federal law enforcement," Jordan wrote.

Jordan’s request comes amid Republicans intensifying their focus on Smith, who brought criminal charges against Trump over the 2020 election and classified documents but later dropped them because of a Justice Department policy that advises against prosecuting sitting presidents.

This one is a big deal. Congressman Jim Jordan, Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, has called on Jack Smith to sit for a transcribed interview – under oath – before his committee. It would occur behind closed doors, no TV cameras, no grandstanding, and no circus.  Rep. Jordan also sent Smith a letter demanding that he hand over every record and piece of communication he has from his time as special counsel.

Honestly, it feels like the moment accountability may be arriving.

The Congressman’s letter gave Smith until October 28 to respond, but if history tells us anything, Smith doesn’t exactly move fast when transparency is on the line. And here’s the thing – when Rep. Jordan’s staff tried to ask members of Smith’s team, including Jay Bratt, JP Cooney, and Thomas Windom, even the most basic questions, Smith’s people – reportedly invoked the Fifth Amendment some 70 times. Seventy times. That is the opposite of transparency. That is what we call stonewalling.

Now I’m not naïve. I realize people in Washington rarely volunteer information unless they’re backed into a corner. But this isn’t just about politics. It’s also about whether unelected bureaucrats are targeting people based on ideology. Because if they can get away with it in Washington, they can get away with it anywhere.

Smith recently gave an interview at the UK’s University College London, defending his investigation and his team, claiming, “The idea that politics played a role in who worked on that case, or who got chosen, is ludicrous.” He painted a picture of brave, almost mythic heroes, standing up to political pressure, calling them “team players who don’t want to do anything but good in the world. They’re not interested in politics.” However, when your own team hides behind the Fifth Amendment to avoid questions, your credibility starts circling the drain.

As our Executive Producer Will Haynes put it, “They say they want transparency – but only on their terms.”

Today’s Sekulow broadcast included more analysis of the Jack Smith testimony demand, and we welcomed U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Special Missions Ric Grenell who updated us on the Left’s election hijinks in California, and much more.
