Kamala Harris Speaks Live From White House Following Biden's Exit

Was last week the craziest week in U.S. political history? I’ve never seen anything like it in my lifetime: a near-assassination attempt on a former President the day before the Republican National Convention, a public coup by the Democrat Party to remove the sitting President from a reelection campaign, the controversy surrounding the U.S. Secret Service’s security failures, Trump’s stirring retelling of the horrors that happened at the rally, and President Biden getting COVID-19.

Yesterday the coup finally culminated in President Joe Biden ending his reelection campaign and endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris. Today, she spoke live at the White House to honor the NCAA tournament champions and is now the presumptive Democrat nominee for the 2024 presidential election. Will VP Harris be the one to battle President Donald Trump for the White House?

President Biden had a horrible debate and never recovered. And then his closest political allies in the Democrat Party all turned on him – justifiably so. He clearly had zero path to victory, so he could step down or be even more humiliated by President Trump in an electoral defeat.

Regardless, I was shocked by the news yesterday. In addition, the way Biden announced the withdrawal was very odd – in a written statement that clearly wasn’t his signature. Joe Biden’s brother, Frank Biden, even opined that serious health issues factored into the decision. My brother, Logan, said that it wouldn’t shock him if we only have a couple more weeks of a Biden presidency before he steps down for good and Harris takes the reins completely.

Honestly, Harris taking over could be a good move for the Democrat Party. If she can showcase leadership ability until the election, she could sway more voters her way. And just the fact that she’s under 70 could also attract more independent voters. She could be new and fresh, and as Logan noted, choosing a good running mate could change the game.

She has a month until the Democrat National Convention to prove herself a worthy opponent to Trump. And she’s got almost $100 million in donor funds backing the prior Biden-Harris campaign right now. If she is not the nominee, then the money could get sent to a super PAC, and it would become much murkier about who controls it.

So far, the Democrat Party appears to be rallying around Harris. Governor Whitmer (MI) and Governor Newsom (CA) voiced their support for her, as did the Clintons. However, the Obamas have said they want an open nominating process.

ACLJ Senior Advisor for National Security and Foreign Policy Ric Grenell commented on Harris’ radical record as a California Senator:

California . . . is controlled by Democrats. So what she’s been able to do is literally take every radical lefty idea that has failed, and she’s been the champion – whether it’s on the environment, whether it’s on shutting down all energy production, whether it’s on abortion, whether it’s on trying to raise the minimum wage to crazy levels that don’t even consider businesses. She has no idea how an economy works. All she does is race to more legislation that would be more radical and more lefty – very anti-business because all she does is come up with new ideas that really strangle small business owners. She has no idea how to make a paycheck or how to make a budget. But she doesn’t care. She’s got DEI programs everywhere and is really proud of it.

Harris will have to account for her radical history and her failures to secure the border under Biden’s leadership.

Also, U.S. Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle testified before Congress today about the massive security failures that happened at Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. House Judiciary Committee Rep. Jim Jordan (OH-4) had a testy exchange with Cheatle, accusing her of not directly answering any questions about whether the Secret Service ignored multiple requests to beef up security for President Trump prior to the assassination attempt.
