The International Brotherhood of Teamsters broke a decades-long tradition of presidential endorsements, choosing not to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris or President Donald Trump. The Teamsters endorsed President Joe Biden in 2020, but internal polling shows that most union members support President Trump in 2024.

Also, Teamster President Sean O’Brien was the first union president ever to speak at the Republican National Convention, and he chose not to speak at the Democrat National Convention after they wouldn’t let him deliver his preferred speech. So why won’t the Teamsters publicly support President Trump?

Conservatives spoke out against the Teamsters’ declining to endorse Trump. Fox Business News reports:

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters was ridiculed on social media Wednesday after announcing it would not be endorsing a presidential candidate, despite a majority of the union’s membership supporting former President Trump.

Teamsters on Wednesday posted the results of internal polling on the 2024 candidates, showing that the union’s members favored Trump by 59.6% over Democratic nominee Vice President Harris, who received 34% in an online survey. In a phone survey, Teamsters favored Trump over Harris, 58% to 31%.

Still, the union declined to endorse a 2024 presidential candidate for the first time in three decades, saying in a statement, “The union’s extensive member polling showed no majority support for Vice President Harris and no universal support among the membership for President Trump.”

Did you catch the Teamsters’ bizarre reason for not endorsing a candidate? The Teamsters wouldn’t endorse Trump unless he got 100% support, whereas VP Harris only needed a majority percentage. The statement shows that the union leadership is out of touch with its members.

However, even though Trump didn’t receive an official endorsement, it’s a massive victory for him that the Teamsters put out the statistics showing that the majority of one of the largest private-sector unions in the country supports him.

Robert from California, a Service Employees International Union member, called into Sekulow today. He asserted that he was not supporting Kamala Harris. I asked how his Teamster colleagues were planning to vote. Robert stated:

Of course, the union has come down and endorsed Kamala. But the members themselves, I’m hearing some aren’t being vocal about it, but some are that they’re going to vote the other way. They’re going to vote for Trump.

The Democrat Party could usually depend on union support during a presidential election because it claimed to be the party of the working class. However, the data from the Teamsters shows that Rust Belt states are abandoning their typical political affiliation.

ACLJ Senior Counsel and Director of Policy Harry Hutchison explained the historic shift:

If you look at Pennsylvania, you will find individuals who are represented by a labor union in the fracking industry. They are leaning toward the Republicans. The same thing is true in Michigan. The auto workers who are losing jobs to the electric vehicle mandate are beginning to trend toward the Republicans, and the poll numbers of Teamsters workers suggest a similar phenomenon is occurring within the Teamsters Union. This has been a strategic move over the last 20 to 30 years, in part, because unions increasingly are led by elites who’ve been educated at elite universities, and they . . . are not really that concerned about everyday working-class interests. People are experiencing egg prices that have gone up 60%. Gasoline prices have doubled during the Biden-Harris regime. Those things are motivating workers to move away from the Democrat Party.

The Teamsters’ shift is also indicative of the shift from the middle class away from the Democrat Party. The fact that Harris and Walz keep bringing up that they are middle class shows that they are noticing this shift too, and are desperate to appear relatable. Clearly, many within the working class are tired of the failed Bidenomics policies that have hurt so many Americans.

Today’s Sekulow broadcast included a full analysis of the historic shift in Teamster support for a GOP candidate. Former U.S. Representative Tulsi Gabbard reacted to the news that during the summer, Iran hacked the Trump campaign and sent stolen information to the Biden campaign.
