Clancy Trial Highlights Erosion of Sanctity of Life

Jurors just gave a behind-the-scenes interview about the deliberation room that led to a hung jury in Lindsay Clancy’s criminal trial. The mistrial highlights the erosion of the sanctity of life in America. And it clearly exemplifies how critical the pro-life work of the ACLJ remains.

The entire world has been watching the Clancy case out of Massachusetts. The case was ruled a mistrial. In a groundbreaking interview, one of the jurors made a starkly profound statement about the one juror who refused to find Clancy not guilty by reason of insanity. The juror stated: “But he had the hardest time getting over the fact that Lindsay viciously killed her children.”

It shocks the conscience to hear those words. And it should. But it’s also not surprising, as this trial took place in the state of Massachusetts, where people applauded a late-term abortion bill that was signed into law by the governor. Massachusetts is also the state that used tax dollars to fund a multi-million-dollar campaign to attack pro-life Pregnancy Resource Centers, which we took action against, launching our own multimedia counter campaign, and filing a lawsuit against the state.

We constantly talk about the sanctity of life, and about when life begins. It’s bad enough that in some states, a baby can be murdered up to the moment of birth – and beyond. Now we’re seeing children whose lives were stolen in a horrific manner.

With this erosion of the sanctity of life in society, the ACLJ’s fight for the unborn is more vital than ever. Most recently, the ACLJ supported legislation that will prevent surrogate mothers from being forced to abort babies if the intended parents decide they don’t want to see the pregnancy through.

Every unborn child is a human life deserving protection. Contract provisions that require abortion or punish a woman for refusing one place another party’s preferences ahead of both the unborn child and the woman carrying that child. Thankfully, the Preventing Forced Abortions Act addresses this problem directly.  

The ACLJ is engaged nationwide in not only defending life, but also encouraging a culture of life. We should never be in a place where we can “get[] over the fact that [someone] viciously killed her children.”
