Charlie Kirk Letter Released
Listen tothis article
While some of the extremists on the Left have tried to say assassinated conservative influencer Charlie Kirk was anti-Israel, a newly released letter written by Kirk to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shows otherwise, illustrating the global impact he was making before his death. Kirk was an ardent supporter of Israel, writing of his “deep love” for the Jewish people and the Jewish state, and his alarm at the growing antisemitism in the West.
As reported by the New York Post:
Assassinated conservative activist Charlie Kirk advised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu how to counter “anti-Israel sentiment” among Gen Z and win the “information war” being waged against the Jewish state, according to a letter obtained by The Post.
Kirk wrote to Netanyahu in the May 2 missive that he was alarmed by “anti-Israel and anti-Semitic trends” hitting “record levels on social media” since one of his “greatest joys as a Christian is advocating for Israel and forming alliances with Jews in the fight to protect Judeo-Christian civilization.”
“My team and I have spent months analyzing these trends and debating ideas that could help you and your country pushback [sic] against these disturbing developments,” he said in the letter, reproduced in full below for the first time. “Anti-Israel sentiment can undermine American support for Israel.”
“The purpose of this letter is to lay out our concerns and outline potential remedies. Everything written here is from a place of deep love for Israel and the Jewish people,” added Kirk, who defended Israel when speaking on college campuses as part of his duties leading Turning Point USA, one of the nation’s largest conservative youth organizations.
Many of us who admired Kirk are still reeling over his murder, just as we’re still processing the words of his widow Erica at his memorial just last week. And as supporters of Israel, it’s encouraging to read that Israel was one more area where our values and Charlie’s aligned. Kirk even wrote to Netanyahu that one of his “greatest joys as a Christian is advocating for Israel and forming alliances with Jews in the fight to protect Judeo-Christian civilization.”
Kirk’s letter was blunt in telling the Prime Minister that he is indeed losing support in America, even among some conservatives, and reportedly offered a comprehensive strategy on how they can possibly reenergize American support:
“I’m accused of being a paid apologist for Israel when I defend her; however, if I don’t defend Israel strongly enough, I’m accused of being anti-semitic.” Kirk added in his letter.
“I know you’ve got a 7 front war and my kvetching pales in comparison. But I’m trying to convey to you that Israel is losing support even in conservative circles. This should be a 5 alarm fire.”
The late TPUSA leader listed seven suggestions for turning the tide of public opinion, including building out a rapid response team on X and other platforms, similar to that of President Trump’s White House staff; cultivate pro-Israel experts to fact-check misinformation about the Gaza war in real time; and create an “Israel Truth Network” as a clearinghouse of reliable information.
This isn’t the sound of a man who’s support for Israel is wavering. He knows that things aren’t going so well and that Israel could do more to help itself in the court of public opinion.
Keeping our attention on Israel, we were also joined by ACLJ Senior Counsel for Global Affairs – and former U.S. Secretary of State – Mike Pompeo who gave his reaction to yesterday’s meetings between Trump and Netanyahu. Secretary Pompeo addressed new rumors that Hamas is willing to at least consider a deal brokered by Trump:
Well, look, the Palestinians have continuously for decades now rejected proposals that would have been good for their own people. This is another example of that, a proposal that is good for them. I hope they'll sign up for this. I hope they'll say yes. This makes sense, and then maybe even more important than saying yes in this moment that they'll actually deliver on this because these are serious commitments, right? You have to return all the hostages, but those that are still alive and those that have been deceased. They've got to disarm. They've got to declare that they're going to recognize Israel. Driven by Iran, the leadership, whether it's in Judea, Samaria or in Gaza, has never been prepared to do that. So they've never wasted an opportunity to blow an opportunity. I hope they don't blow this one.
This strikes me very much as what President Trump did with Iran just a couple of months back now, right? He gave them a window, he gave them a time and said if you don't do it . . . we're gonna go solve this problem on our own. In this case, just as in the last, the Israelis went and did a lot of the work, and in this case, they're prepared to do that again. I hope not only Hamas, but Hezbollah, sees that this path towards peace is in their best interest and they execute on an agreement that President Trump has now brokered.
Obviously, there is still much work that will need to be done, but maybe even Hamas sees the writing on the wall. The rest of the Middle East seems to want this war to end – especially those who signed the Abraham Accords that stand to benefit from a working relationship with Israel. Above all, peace and safety for all is the top priority.
Today’s Sekulow broadcast included more analysis of Charlie Kirk’s last words to Netanyahu and his strategy to help defend Israel’s interests. We were also joined by Secretary Mike Pompeo, as well as U.S. Special Presidential Envoy Ric Grenell, plus my brother, ACLJ Executive Director Jordan Sekulow.
