The Trump Administration’s Border Security Success: Promises Made, Promises Kept

Listen tothis article

Throughout my career serving America – as a soldier, Congressman, CIA Director, and Secretary of State – I’ve always believed that protecting our sovereignty is not merely a policy preference but an absolute constitutional necessity. A nation without borders ceases to be a nation at all.

President Trump made a crystal-clear promise during the campaign that he would end illegal immigration and secure our borders. Unlike the empty rhetoric we’ve grown accustomed to from Washington politicians, President Trump built a team to do exactly that, and they are now executing on this promise with characteristic vigor and determination. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem and Border Czar Tom Homan have demonstrated they have the intention, will, and capability to carry out this plan and bring real results. Every American is safer today because of it.

The data speaks for itself. Since January 20th, the Administration has demonstrated real, tangible results that even the most cynical observer cannot deny. We have seen a dramatic reduction in border encounters at our southern border, from 160,000 per month under President Biden, to just 7,181 in March 2025. This is not incremental progress – it’s transformational.

This reversal, accomplished without any changes or new laws from Congress, exposes the complete lack of credibility that President Biden and Vice President Harris had when they told the American people they didn’t want illegal immigrants to enter the United States, and that they were doing “everything in their power” to stop them. Their Administration’s policies actively encouraged millions to make the dangerous journey to our border, enriching cartels and traffickers while overwhelming our communities and straining our resources.

By contrast, the Trump Administration hasn’t just paid lip service but taken incredibly public and effective actions that have made crystal clear that anyone who is in the United States illegally will be deported. The world is watching, and the message is being received. As someone who has spent decades dealing with adversaries who only respond to strength and clarity, I can tell you: When America means what it says, the world notices.

You can now begin to see the tide turning in a way that is serious, important, and will make all Americans safer. The lawless chaos of the past four years is giving way to order and the rule of law.

Make no mistake – there is still significant work to be done. The cartels and criminal organizations that have profited from human trafficking are not going to simply surrender their lucrative enterprises without a fight. But President Trump’s team has shown the resolve and capability to confront these threats head-on.

Ultimately, President Trump’s efforts to take aggressive action against criminal illegal alien gang members and secure our borders will make our country safer, stronger, and more secure. It’s imperative our leaders and law enforcement agents are given the support and resources necessary to carry out their mission and enact the President’s agenda.

The contrast couldn’t be clearer. The previous Administration saw our immigration laws as optional guidelines to be ignored when politically expedient. The Trump Administration sees them as the sovereign will of the American people, to be enforced faithfully and without apology.

This isn’t just about immigration – it’s about whether we are a nation of laws or merely a geographical area with suggestions. President Trump understands this fundamental truth: American sovereignty is non-negotiable, and the federal government’s first duty is to protect its citizens.

As we move forward, let’s remember that border security isn’t a partisan issue – or at least it shouldn’t be. It’s an American issue that affects our national security, economic prosperity, and the rule of law. The dramatic progress we’ve seen in just a few months proves what many of us have long known: When there is the political will to enforce our laws, results follow swiftly.

The American people demanded action, President Trump promised to deliver, and now we’re seeing promises kept. That’s leadership in action.
