Title 42, a pandemic era policy that helped control the number of migrants that cross our southern border, expires on May 23rd. President Biden once said that he planned on removing this policy, but with pushback from his own party, it appears that he might change his mind.

Left-leaning Senator Gary Peters (MI) expressed concern for potentially letting Title 42 expire:

Unless we have a well-thought-out plan, I think it is something that should be revisited and perhaps delayed. I’m going to defer judgment on that until I give the Administration the opportunity to fully articulate what the plan is. But I share . . . concerns of some of my colleagues.

According to President Biden, they do not have a plan yet. After backlash like this, President Biden backpedaled and stated:

There has been no decision on extending Title 42.

ACLJ Senior Counsel for Global Affairs Mike Pompeo explained what would make the Biden Administration change its tune:

They are hearing from constituents across the county about the lifting of Title 42 with no other plan. If you want to lift Title 42, fair enough, but you have to have a plan . . . you have to do the things that secure our southern border. I think they can see this will be a calamity. It will be a calamity for America, and a calamity for them politically. . . . I don’t know what to make of what President Biden said this morning, but they cannot lift Title 42 absent a plan to actually secure our southern border and protect our sovereignty.

The border is not secure, and it is creating a national security issue. ACLJ Senior Military Analyst Wes Smith detailed this situation in a new article and pointed out the humanitarian crisis going on at the border:

The fact that the Biden Administration refuses to take this seriously . . . and refuses to take action just on those two issues alone should raise alarm bells – national security and the moral humanitarian issue with sex trafficking. Last month over 200,000 people were apprehended at the border. . . .the border patrol agents say that if Title 42 goes away they will be facing 18 to 20,000 immigrants a day crossing illegally. That translates to over 500,000 a month and multiple millions in a year.

National security and human trafficking are not the only issues that we fight against at the ACLJ. One of the core issues that we focus on is defending the unborn. Today, we’re presenting oral argument at the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. ACLJ Senior Attorney Ed White joined Sekulow to discuss what is at stake in this case:

What’s at stake is future investigations by pro-life activists of Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry. This is a case that has been going on for at least seven years now. This is the undercover investigation of Planned Parenthood’s abortion doctors, everyone has seen the videos where the women were negotiating the sale of body parts and one said she wanted a Lamborghini out of the deal. . . . This caused a lot of change in the country. There were investigations. There was defunding of Planned Parenthood. And what Planned Parenthood did . . . was they were able to achieve a judgment against these pro-life advocates of multiple millions of dollars . . .  and a permanent injunction to stop them from doing what they are doing. That is what is at stake. It is silencing the pro-life movement and trying to prevent any other pro-lifer in the near future from ever thinking about doing this, because what was exposed of Planned Parenthood showed the horrific practices of Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry.

We’ve been arguing cases like this for 40 years. And we bring you analysis on these cases through our various media platforms. Even with the ever-changing landscape of the media industry, we are always working to provide you with relevant information on the issues that matter most.

As the media industry is changing, networks are adapting. We told you how CNN tried to expand its media platform by launching the CNN+ streaming service. ACLJ Senior Advisor for National Security and Foreign Policy and former Acting Director of National Intelligence Ric Grenell explained why this was unsuccessful and the impact it will have on CNN:

When you have the opportunity to watch CNN’s content for free, you’re not doing it. So why would they think that people would pay for content that they are clearly avoiding when it's free? This is just the typical Washington, Big Tech, New York, hoarder mentality that they know what is best. . . . But I think the CNN+ thing will be a big wakeup call to start listening to your viewers and what they want in order to move forward and expand.
