Putin And Biden Are Targeting Journalists

You read that title right. Both Russian President Vladimir Putin and our very own President Joe Biden are targeting journalists. And today, we learned that Russia has just arrested an American journalist from the Wall Street Journal.

As reported:

Russia’s security service arrested an American reporter for The Wall Street Journal on espionage charges, the first time a U.S. correspondent has been detained on spying accusations since the Cold War. The newspaper denied the allegations and demanded his release.

Evan Gershkovich was detained in the city of Yekaterinburg while allegedly trying to obtain classified information, the Federal Security Service, known by the acronym FSB, said Thursday.

The service, which is the top domestic security agency and main successor to the Soviet-era KGB, alleged that Gershkovich “was acting on instructions from the American side to collect information about the activities of one of the enterprises of the Russian military-industrial complex that constitutes a state secret.”

The Wall Street Journal defended Gershkovich and argued that Russia’s claims against the reporter, who has been covering Russia for years without any incidents, are unfounded. Now he could face a lengthy sentence in a Russian prison as a pawn in another one of Putin’s political games with the United States.

And why wouldn’t Putin play games with us? President Biden has shown time and time again that he is weak and will not stand up to Russia any more than he will China. And that’s why Putin continues to dangle balls of yarn in the air to see if President Biden will swat at them or just slink away again.

Meanwhile, here at home, President Biden has been silent after the Deep State IRS –

the one Biden wants to double in size and scope to target Americans – showed up at the door of American journalist Matt Taibbi as he testified before the U.S. House subcommittee investigating federal government censorship.

Coincidence? What do you think? The Deep State can’t actually arrest him for testifying, but it can certainly sic its IRS agents on him and make his life miserable. And for the record, Taibbi is not a conservative. But no matter what party you affiliate with, once you start to raise questions, the Deep State will turn on you quickly.

And when other journalists confronted White House spokesman John Kirby yesterday about this clear harassment, the Biden official essentially washed his hands of it:

The Post asked at the first White House press briefing since the news of the visit broke Monday about whether the visit was “part of a campaign to harass or intimidate [Taibbi] related to his journalism.”

White House spokesman John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communications at the National Security Council, declined to provide a substantive reply.

“I’m afraid I’m going to have to refer you to the IRS,” he said succinctly.

Now journalists are getting just a taste of what conservatives and Christians have been experiencing from the Deep State IRS, first under Obama – which we fought to expose and defeat, and WON – and now under the Biden Administration. It is unacceptable, no matter what side of the aisle you think the journalist falls on. We don’t attack journalists in America. We don’t censor the press. It is possible to be a patriot and question the federal government. And if Biden, or any other U.S. President, begins to target journalists who question his actions, our country is no longer a constitutional republic – it’s a dictatorship.

Russia sees this. What do you think Putin will say when we tell him not to target our journalists? He’ll point at this story and say, “You do, so why shouldn’t I?” Honestly, if I were an American journalist working abroad, especially in an adversarial nation like Russia or China, these two stories combined – Putin arresting a journalist, and the Biden Administration releasing its IRS hounds on another – would make me very concerned.
