Elon Musk’s monumental Twitter takeover might be in jeopardy. He tweeted that his deal to acquire Twitter is currently on hold “pending details supporting calculation that spam/fake accounts do indeed represent less than 5% of users.”

So, Musk is basically saying, before he goes forward with an overpriced offer, he needs to make sure the accounts are real on the platform. This is something anyone would do if they are about to enter an approximately $40 billion deal.

This comes at a time when Musk has received a lot of criticism for his plan to allow free speech on Twitter and even reinstate former President Trump’s account. In an interview, Elon Musk pointed out that banning the former President was wrong:

I do think it was not correct to ban Donald Trump. I think that was a mistake because it alienated a large part of the country and did not ultimately result in Donald Trump not having a voice. He is now going to be on TruthSocial, as will a large part of the right, in the United States, and so I think this could end up being frankly, worse than having a single forum where everyone could debate. I guess the answer is that I would reverse the permanent ban.

The Left is panicked over the idea that Musk would take over Twitter and no longer censor anyone. Media Matters sent a letter to major brands to urge them to commit to how Twitter is right now before Musk’s takeover, or else they will not advertise on the platform. The letter reads:

To whom it may concern: Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter will further toxify our information ecosystem and be a direct threat to public safety, especially among those already most vulnerable and marginalized.

It doesn’t even stop there. We told you how the Biden Department of Homeland Security created a “Disinformation Governance Board” to monitor free speech on social media platforms. Executive Director Nina Jankowicz gave her take on what she thinks Twitter should become:

I am eligible for it because I am verified, but there are a lot of people who shouldn’t be verified who aren’t, you know, legit, in my opinion. I mean, they are real people, but they’re not, you know, trustworthy. Anyway, so, verified people can essentially start to edit Twitter the same sort of way Wikipedia is, so they can add context to certain tweets.

There is no editing when it comes to allowing freedom of speech. We won’t sit back and allow that to happen. So, we filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to obtain all the records for why this board was created and what exactly it intends to do. It’s time that the American people on both sides of the aisle are heard and we go back to combating free speech with more speech, instead of silencing one side. We are prepared to go all the way to the Supreme Court if necessary to protect freedom of speech.
