ACLJ Files FOIA Against Biden Administration To Expose Motives Behind Newly Announced DHS “Disinformation Governance Board” that Could Chill Speech and Censor Conservative Voices Prior To Midterms

One thing the Biden Administration is demonstrating an unwavering commitment to is its unrelenting assault on free speech, if that speech veers off its very strict, extreme Left narrative.

The ACLJ is again taking legal action, submitting an urgent Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request against President Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS)  as he attempts to muzzle anyone who contradicts his or the radical Left’s agenda through the newly announced “Disinformation Governance Board.”

If you think this is paranoia, just look at the Left’s total meltdown over Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter and allowing conservatives who were de-platformed during the previous management’s tenure to have a voice again. They’ve made it very clear that they’re terrified of conservative voices. So much so, in fact, it’s the so-called progressives who are calling for MORE censorship, not less.

As our FOIA points out, Biden’s “Disinformation Board” seems suspiciously like a direct reaction to the announcement that Musk had taken over Twitter:

The news of the ‘Disinformation Governance Board’ comes two days after Tesla CEO Elon Musk secured a $44 billion deal to buy Twitter, stoking panic among the Left that the platform would become a free-speech free-for-all.

No wonder it only took a matter of days, practically hours, for the Biden Administration to announce the formation of new review board within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security meant to sniff out and shutdown any speech they – the radical Left – consider “disinformation or misinformation” and therefore dangerous.

As we just reported, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is now being weaponized against free speech. DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced the creation of a “Disinformation Governance Board” raising serious free speech concerns.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas testified Wednesday that a "Disinformation Governance Board" had recently been created to combat online disinformation and Politico reported that Nina Jankowicz, who previously served as a disinformation fellow at the Wilson Center, will head the board as executive director.

What we’re really looking at is an unprecedented and dangerous attack on our constitutional republic and free speech. Rather than allow discourse, and multiple opinions to be heard, the Left wants to control everything and delete dissenting voices as it continues to grab up as much power as it can.

Along with being potentially unethical and unconstitutional, the formation of this board is particularly concerning as we find ourselves only months away from the critical midterm elections in November. Sec. Mayorkas literally cited the upcoming 2022 elections as at least a part of the impetus for creating this board. Let that sink in for a moment. Conservatives will be campaigning again, so the Left needs a “Disinformation” review board to monitor and censor what they say. At the very least it will chill conservative free expression.

Before Elon Musk bought Twitter, conservative lawmakers, influencers, and even political candidates were being banned, their accounts stripped away, and their voices gagged. This board could be yet another weapon in the Left’s arsenal to keep conservative candidates from getting their message out prior to elections. The same people who accused social media platforms of influencing elections and demanded more governance, now want to handle that “monitoring” themselves. What could possibly go wrong? If you think Twitter was bad, if you think Facebook censorship is problematic, just image what a federal government “Disinformation” review board in an agency with law enforcement authority would do. We believe it’s unconstitutional.

Considering how much money abortion giant Planned Parenthood pumped into the campaigns of abortion-friendly candidates in 2020 – and will likely do again before this coming November – do not be surprised when this “Disinformation Governance Board” targeting, chilling, or censoring pro-life voices as well – or starts pressuring Big Tech to throttle more. 

At the ACLJ, we’re not going to stand back and watch yet another draconian overreach of power by the Biden Administration. It has to be nipped in the bud right now. Which is why we just submitted our FOIA request to President Biden’s DHS to obtain any and all records pertaining to the creation and purpose of the “Disinformation” board. It is imperative that we know who came up with this Soviet-style Ministry of Information panel and what its true intentions are because on the surface, it looks like nothing more than a way to chill, squash, and punish conservative voices.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki had the audacity to ask, “Who opposes that effort?” WE DO.

We will fight tirelessly to stop this from happening. We filed our FOIA. The Biden Administration will likely refuse to comply, and then we will go to court, even if that fight leads all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. And we will keep you informed as it progresses.
