Your church's First Amendment rights are at risk as Election Day draws closer. The IRS and Americans United are already threatening crackdowns and intimidations which seriously violate the free speech rights of people of faith. Churches and houses of worship should be free to take strong positions on moral issues, even issues of political consequence, for the sake of our nation's spiritual and moral health. The Internal Revenue Service should not have effective censorship over religious speech by wielding the power to deny tax-exempt status to a church. We urge you to strongly support federal legislation guaranteeing the freedom of churches to speak out on issues of the day.
