The IRS currently has the right to censor the speech of pastors and pick and choose which churches are free to speak out and which churches must remain silent. This inspires Americans United, and other like-minded groups, to intimidate pastors and Christian leaders, particularly in election years, causing them to avoid or tip-toe around the issues of the day, such as abortion, the Fairness Doctrine, and the role of faith in America critical issues that every church should be free to discuss. This must stop. The ACLJ is committed to passage of a federal law ending this outrage. But your voice is essential to this battle. Please read the form carefully and declare your membership with the ACLJ by signing our online Free Speech Petition.

Churches and houses of worship should be free to take strong positions on moral issues, even issues of political consequence, for the sake of our nation's spiritual and moral health. The Internal Revenue Service should not have effective censorship over religious speech by wielding the power to deny tax-exempt status to a church. We urge you to strongly support H.R. 2275 or similar legislation guaranteeing the freedom of churches to speak out on issues of the day.
