We posted on the website a video update that I have done concerning major cases and issues that the American Center for Law and Justice is handling.  In this video update, I discuss the briefs being filed in the partial-birth abortion cases.  Those briefs were filed last week before the Supreme Court of the United States.  I also give an update on legislation that Congressman Todd Akin has initiated to protect the ability of chaplains in all the branches of the military to pray according to the dictates of their conscience, which can include a specific reference to Jesus.

While we were pleased with the progress we made in the United States Air Force Guidelines, the other branches of the military have still been a concern.  Congressman Akins legislation goes a long way in solving this with a simple sentence that states, Each chaplain shall have the prerogative to pray according to the dictates of the chaplains own conscience, except as must be limited by military necessity, with any such limitation being imposed in the least restrictive manner feasible.  This legislation, simply put, will end the discrimination that exists in the military concerning chaplains ability to pray according to the dictates of their conscience.  We are hopeful for movement on this legislation later this summer.

I also wanted to let everyone know that we are going back into our TV studios next week to do a series of special programs on the Mt. Soledad cross and the ACLU battle currently going on in San Diego.  We thought it would be timely to go back into the studios because this issue has generated such national support.  We hope to have these programs on the air by the middle of June.

We were also very pleased that the United States Senate confirmed Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.  Brett will make an excellent addition to this most important court of appeals.  For updated information, please visit us at www.aclj.org.
