Supreme Court Update
With confirmation hearings expected to begin for Judge Samuel Alito, the Supreme Court is poised to consider a case involving the national ban on partial-birth abortion.
Preparations continue for the start of confirmation hearings set to begin on January 9th for Judge Alito in his quest to become an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. At the same time, the high court is poised to consider one of the most critical political and cultural issue facing us today - the national ban on partial-birth abortion.
The ACLJ has filed a brief asking the high court to take the case out of Nebraska and to uphold the constitutionality of the ban. The ACLJ represents 70 members of Congress in defending this national ban. A decision on whether the high court will take the case could come in a matter of days.
At the same time, the ACLJ's Washington team is gearing up for the Alito confirmation hearings set to begin January 9th before the Senate Judiciary Committee. There is no question that the issue of abortion will be front and center at those hearings.
It is a busy time at the Supreme Court and we will keep you posted regarding these ongoing issues and developments in other key cases.
