Senator Joe Manchin (WV) just admitted what we already told you: the so-called Inflation Reduction Act won’t actually reduce inflation at all. Of course, what they still haven’t confessed yet is that it will likely make inflation worse.

We knew all along that the name Inflation Reduction Act was misleading at best. That’s par for the course in Washington D.C. politics. What is not typical is when these politicians forget they’re supposed to continue misleading after the fact. Normally they try to stay on message, so you don’t realize what was really packed into any given bill.

But Sen. Joe Manchin must have forgotten when he struggled to come up with a coherent answer after a Fox News reporter asked him point blank to defend the disingenuous title of the bill:

Reporter: When it comes to inflation, is it misleading to call this the Inflation Reduction Act for Americans when it’s not going to make their grocery bill cheaper? It’s not going to make everyday goods cheaper for them – at least immediately.

Manchin: Why would it? Why would it? Well immediately it’s not, but you . . . we never said anything happening immediately, like today it turns the switch on and off.

Why would it? You never said it would? Listen folks, the reality is calling it the Inflation Reduction Act was a simple marketing ploy – give it a title people will like and they’ll support even without reading it – and nothing more.

This is Sen. Manchin showing his true colors. He’s a big spender, supports big government, and he loves taxes. He’s not even trying to spin it anymore. Even a Green New Deal Socialist like Sen. Bernie Sanders has argued against the Inflation Reduction Act (even though he ultimately voted for it).

I asked ACLJ Senior Counsel for Global Affairs Mike Pompeo about his take on Sen. Manchin’s confession about the Inflation Reduction Act, as well as his thoughts on social media companies flagging users who post that there will be 87,000 new IRS agents through this bill. Once again it looks like these big social media companies are doing the work of the radical Left.

As Sec. Pompeo explained, the Left can try to obscure the truth, but the facts are the facts and they’ve given us the numbers:

Two things we know for sure: the first is that 87,000 new [IRS] agents are what is authorized. And there will be some retired, and they’ll replace that one too. The chance that they’re actually going to avoid small businesses and people making less than $400,000 and still achieve the outcome that they said they were going to achieve is as fraudulent as the title of the legislation saying it was actually going to reduce inflation.

Second, we’ve lost such confidence in the capacity of the Internal Revenue Service to do its job. This is what the ACLJ did such great work on, with Lois Lerner, chasing her down and making her prove to the American people that she was behaving in ways that were deeply inconsistent with just making sure that everybody . . . paid taxes – didn’t matter if you were a liberal or a conservative – no she used it to weaponize the IRS against conservatives.

If you’re going to double the size of the IRS – 87,000 new IRS agents – it seems like the American people know that this will end up hurting small businesses and ordinary families, and may well end up as a political tool. There’s no need for it. It was a poor decision, and I so regret that we didn’t have a 51st Senator to prevent this from happening.

Normally blunt honesty from a politician would be a welcome relief, but in this instance, it’s only confirming what we already knew. This bill is little more than a wish list for the Deep State and the radical Green New Deal Leftists.
