Liberals across the country are in shock after Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s stunning defeat in her bid for reelection, before the election has even really begun. After yesterday’s unprecedented vote on the road to Chicago’s City Hall, incumbent Lightfoot has become the first mayor of the Windy City to lose their bid for reelection in forty years.

As reported by Fox News:

Democratic Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has lost her bid for re-election as the race heads to runoff without her after no candidate reached the required 50% vote threshold to be elected.

Lightfoot faced challenges from eight other candidates in the race, including Chicago Public Schools CEO and city budget director Paul Vallas, who held a significant double-digit lead in the polls ahead of Election Day.

While this is not necessarily a victory for conservatives, it is a welcome surprise to see the people of Chicago, a traditionally “Blue” city, vote against their Left-wing mayor. But no one can deny that the city is in chaos, and it’s only gotten worse under Lightfoot’s failed leadership. Violent crime has gripped Chicago. Murder rates have continued to rise amid the Left’s calls to defund the police. Mayor Lightfoot also led the campaign to cripple the city with extensive lockdowns during the pandemic, long after many cities had reopened. It seems like even the most extreme liberals in Chicago are not surprised by this loss, but around the country, the Left is clearly rattled.

As reported by the Associated Press:

Lightfoot’s loss is unusual for mayors in large cities, who have tended to win reelection with relative ease. But it’s also a sign of the turmoil in U.S. cities following the COVID-19 pandemic, with its economic fallout and spikes in violent crime in many places.

Across America, voters in major metropolitan cities are beginning to send a clear rebuke to our leaders: Our cities are burning and we need firefighters, not arsonists.

That was the clear message coming out of Chicago last night. Now the city will hold a runoff election next month between candidates Paul Vallas and Brandon Johnson, one of whom is backed by the police and the other by the powerful Chicago teachers union.
