The American Center for Law & Justice (ACLJ) has come to the rescue of an English couple seeking asylum in Britain.
ACLJ chief counsel Jay Sekulow says the husband and wife were once a Muslim evangelizing team, but that all changed. "This husband was studying to be a Muslim cleric. He comes to Christ. About a year later, his wife comes to Christ. They're in the United Kingdom, and now they're being sent back," he explains. "They're denied asylum to be sent back to Syria."
Under Sharia law, their conversion to a religion other than Islam could mean the death penalty. ACLJ provided legal help, and the couple has now been granted asylum.
"This is a major victory," the attorney says. "[It's] precedent-setting in context, and the findings of fact showed the kinds of persecution that, in this type of case, evangelicals would suffer in the hands of these regimes."
Muslims in Britain, according to Sekulow, were upset that the couple had been successfully evangelizing Muslims to convert to Christianity. He believes the case will not be appealed.
