Radio Recap – President Trump Announces Guidelines for “Opening Up America Again”
President Trump released guidelines on opening America again.
On today’s Jay Sekulow Live we discussed President Trump’s new guidelines to reopen America.
Yesterday, President Trump said at the White House briefing:
We took the greatest economy in the history of the world, and we closed it in order to win this war, and we are in the process of winning it now. Our approach outlines three phases in restoring our economic life. We are not opening all at once but one careful step at a time, and some states will be able to open up sooner than others. Some states are not in the kind of trouble that others are in.
That was the big news yesterday as the guidelines were released by the White House. It’s called "Opening Up America Again." They are calling it state or regional gating criteria. There are three different levels. You’ve got a proposed phased approach based on up-to-date data and of course the mitigation, protecting the most vulnerable.
This will be implemented by your governors or even on a county-by-county basis at the state governor’s discretion. I think this is important.
You’ve got guidelines for individuals here and employers. For phase one, for states that satisfy that initial criteria of being able to open, it still encourages telework. It still encourages work in place, keeping common areas closed, and limiting nonessential travel.
Phase two is for states and regions with no evidence of a rebound. Phase three is for states and regions with no evidence of a rebound and that satisfy the criteria to move on to that phase. It’s a three phase process.
I think it’s very important for the American people to know that regardless of what state you’re in, the U.S. government and now your state and local officials are making the plans to reopen your community in a safe way. It may be later for one state or a county within a state and earlier for others.
I think that gives hope to a lot of Americans, not just to get outside of the house, but to return back to work.
ACLJ Director of Government Affairs Thann Bennett made the following point:
I really think it was important for the President to give the American people a roadmap to what a return to at least somewhat normal looks like. I thought he did that.
