The United States Senate begins its impeachment trial today.

On today’s Jay Sekulow Live we discussed the start of the impeachment trial in the U.S. Senate.

It’s obviously a very big day in Washington, DC. The U.S. Senate is formally beginning the impeachment trial for President Trump.

We were joined by ACLJ Executive Director Jordan Sekulow who is in Washington in his private capacity as a member of President Trump’s legal team preparing for today’s events. Here’s what he had to report:

We’re prepared to go. As I said on Sean Hannity’s broadcast last night, right at the top of the hour on Fox News, even though we believe the President should never have been impeached and that we should never be having this trial today, we are his attorneys and we are ready to go. We’re chomping at the bit to finally have due process. We’ve been able to file our answer. We’ve been able to file our comprehensive brief and today people will see members of the team actually speaking.

You will see the attorneys from the President’s team. You will see the House managers as they begin to debate amendments to the rule and the rule itself that will govern the rest of the trial. That could go today, it could go into tomorrow. We will see when the House Democrats, they go first with their opening statements. That could either be tomorrow or Thursday, depending on the rules today.

This, I will tell people, tune in after our radio broadcast. This is in one sense, unfortunately historic because we shouldn’t be here at all. You will see ACLJ Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow (in his outside private as a member of President Trump’s legal team). You will see me (in my private capacity as well). We will be there. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court will be there. All one hundred U.S. Senators will be there.

I think this is a testament to all of our supporters who have supported the ACLJ and my father’s work early on at those city council meetings and his early Supreme Court cases that the President of the United States has chosen him to be one of the lead counsels in this and even more junior members like me to be at the table throughout this impeachment trial, only the third in the history of the United States of America. We are ready to go.

We’ll have continuing coverage as this impeachment trial continues. ACLJ Executive Director Jordan Sekulow will join us for updates as much as possible.

You can listen to the entire episode, complete with analysis by myself, ACLJ Senior Military Analyst Wes Smith, and ACLJ Director of Policy Harry Hutchison, here.
