POMPEO: These Policies Will Affect the Future of Our Nation's Economy, Domestic Security, and Constitutional Order

Listen tothis article

While America faces enormous challenges abroad, the greatest threat to the future of our country remains here at home.  With the election now just days away, Americans must consider how their choice at the polls next week will affect the future of our nation’s economy, domestic security, and constitutional order.  Let’s set politics aside and look at how the past four years have affected the American people, compared to the four years prior.

In the past four years, the American Dream has slipped out of reach for more and more Americans.  According to a federal inflation calculator, a basket of goods – such as the food you buy at the grocery store every week – that cost $100 at the start of 2021 now costs over $120 – a more than 20% increase in just four years.  Numbers from this past spring indicated that home prices were over 7 times greater than the median household income, and they are now 30 percent higher than when Biden and Harris took office in 2021.  Together with far higher interest rates meant to combat inflation, it has never been more expensive to purchase a home than right now.  Despite Biden and Harris’ claims over the past four years that inflation was “transitory,” that the economy is “slowing,” Americans can see every day that basic goods like rent and mortgage prices, food, water and energy bills, and transportation costs have all continued to steadily rise.

Biden and Harris created these problems by pushing massive and reckless government spending programs that doled out absurd payments to favored industries and political allies.  The Inflation Reduction Act was little more than a slush fund used to bail out failed leftist leaders, from California to Chicago to New York, and to subsidize renewable energy and “combat climate change.”  Biden and Harris have also unconstitutionally attempted to “forgive” billions of dollars’ worth of student loans – by using Americans’ tax dollars to do it, including Americans who either were responsible and actually paid off their own loans, or who never went to college in the first place.  By pouring money we didn’t have into green energy, crushing domestic energy industries with brutal regulations and restrictions, and throwing money at political groups in an attempt to buy votes, Biden and Harris drove up inflation for no other reason than to satisfy their narrow, progressive agenda.

Illegal immigration is another driver of economic disruption and carries very real national security risks for the American people.  Under the Trump Administration’s policies, illegal immigration was not only under control, but through a set of agreements with Mexico, we had left in place a framework that could keep the situation on our southern border manageable for years to come.  When Biden and Harris took office, they ripped up those agreements and failed to enforce the rule of law.  Conservative estimates place the number of illegal immigrants who have come into our country in just the past four years at 10 million – and that doesn’t count “got-aways.”  Of those 10 million and more, how many of them have been individuals with ties to terrorist organizations? How many have come into our country with the express purpose of hurting the American people? It isn’t zero: According to a recent House report, 250 illegal aliens on the terrorist watchlist were encountered by Border Patrol at the southwest border between fiscal years 2021 and 2023, and the Department of Homeland Security released nearly 100 of them.  This is unconscionable. America is now far less safe than it was four years ago, and it is because neither Biden nor Harris (the “Border Czar”) take America’s security seriously.

Finally, Americans ought to consider what this election will mean for the future of our republic.  Two decades before the Civil War began, Abraham Lincoln stated that “If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher.”  His point was not political – it was about the necessity of the rule of law and of honoring the foundational principles that made America what it was.  We should heed his wisdom today and clearly understand the choice before us: The Left has used the power of the federal government to prosecute its political opponents.  It has also called half the country “garbage” for supporting a political candidate, whom it has routinely labeled as a fascist and openly compared to Adolf Hitler.  The Left has favored price controls, packing the Supreme Court, eliminating the filibuster, granting mass amnesty to illegal immigrants, censoring free speech, and codifying extreme abortion rights into federal law, outside the purview of individual states.  Opposing these things is not political or partisan; it is simply a rejection of ideas and policies that are fundamentally anti-American and will put our nation at risk.  In just a few days’ time, Americans will make that choice.
