The battle over House leadership rages as Rep. Matt Gaetz (FL-1) seeks to oust Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (CA-20). This political showdown comes from some conservatives’ anger over McCarthy’s willingness to make deals with Democrats, such as on the recent Continuing Resolution to prevent the government shutdown.

Fox News reports:

Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., has followed through on his renewed threat to introduce a motion to vacate against House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

Gaetz, a frequent McCarthy critic, introduced the motion Monday evening on the House floor.

“Mr. Speaker, pursuant to clause 2A1 of Rule 9, I rise to give notice of my intent to raise a question of the privileges of House,” Gaetz said. “Declaring the office Speaker of the House of Representatives to be vacant. Resolved that the office of Speaker of the House Representatives is hereby declared to be vacant.”

Speaker McCarthy maintains that he isn’t making secret deals with Democrats – as some of his House Republican colleagues allege. Yet the noise is getting louder and louder that McCarthy is unfit to be Speaker.

But who would replace Speaker McCarthy if he’s removed? It wouldn’t be Rep. Gaetz. The replacement would likely be someone similar in style to Speaker McCarthy.

If the vote does move to oust Speaker McCarthy, all that’s required is a simple majority vote from the House. Rep. Gaetz only needs four more House Republicans to side with him along with  House Democrats.

Here’s an even more important question: Is this in-fighting within the House, and specifically within the Republican party, good for our country just a year before the presidential election? We don’t support this possible removal of Speaker McCarthy. We believe it’s a mistake because the last thing we all need right now is dysfunction in Congress. We have clients who this in-House fighting will harm.

Now let’s shift to the latest news in former President Donald Trump’s civil case trial in New York City. Judge Engoron was all smiles for the camera yesterday and acted similarly today. The judge is no friend of Trump based on Trump’s blistering comments yesterday before his court appearance.

But surprisingly, the judge ruled in Trump’s favor yesterday when he chastised Attorney General Letitia James for using a witness (a tax attorney who found the alleged fraud) whose testimony was completely irrelevant because of the expired statute of limitations.

If the first witness – usually a prosecutor’s strongest witness – fell this flat, what does that say about the rest of AG James’ case? Being told that her first witness was “a waste of time” is not a good sign for AG James.

ACLJ Senior Advisor for National Security and Foreign Policy Ric Grenell also weighed in on Trump’s current case in New York:

Look, this whole crowd of manipulators for Justice Department officials, state prosecutors, judges that are left wing – they all waited two and a half years to go after Donald Trump, and then they all came out guns a-blazing with 91 charges. . . . And the American people see state politicians trying to revalue personal property, [which] is a really terrible thing. But if that’s the new rule, don’t hate the player in red states when red states decide to do this. This is the new rule that the Democrats have created, and red-state politicians should start looking at revaluing properties. If that’s the new rule, I don’t like it. I don’t think it should be done, but if that’s the rule, well, don’t hate the player.

Will the far Left’s political prosecution of Trump in this civil case fall flat? We’ll find out.

In the meantime, we are fighting against another form of blatant election interference to ensure you have the right to vote for the candidate of your choice. Read here to learn more about our massive multi-state legal battle:
