This morning I received an update from American Center for Law and Justice Senior Counsel Frank Manion regarding a new case.  Frank met yesterday with a social worker in New York who was fired by a hospital for stating that she could not refer patients for abortions.  These conscience clause cases are becoming the cutting edge fight in the abortion battle.  Doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and social workers are taking a front line stand against referrals for abortions or refusing to participate in abortion procedures.  In this particular case, we are representing a social worker who has filed a complaint with the EEOC and the New York Department of Human Rights.  We are representing the social worker at the agency level now and looking towards litigation if we dont get a just resolution.

I also received this morning from our European Centre for Law and Justice an opinion from the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).  The European Court of Human Rights is the highest court in Europe dealing with issues of life, liberty and religious freedom.  We received word that a case that we brought to the ECHR regarding Christians in Bulgaria has been granted review.  In this particular case, churches were actually seized by government officials with armed paramilitary troops in order to stop the religious worship.   I will have a further report on this case in the days ahead.
