New Bill Introduced To Roll Back Biden’s Abortion Pill Expansion and Protect Women and Babies

In a bold and principled stand for life, Senator Josh Hawley (MO) has introduced crucial legislation aimed at reinstating safety regulations for the chemical abortion drug mifepristone (a.k.a. Mifeprex, Korlym, or RU-486). This legislation is critically important to address the Biden Administration’s reckless removal of longstanding safety measures that once protected women from the dangers of this dangerous drug.
The “Restoring Safeguards for Dangerous Abortion Drugs Act” seeks to restore the Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) requirements, which included critical safeguards like in-person medical supervision and proper screening for conditions that make chemical abortion especially dangerous. For years, these commonsense protections were in place to ensure that women had direct access to medical care in case of complications – complications that the abortion lobby has often downplayed or outright ignored. The bill also creates a right to sue for harms related to abortion pills and bans the import of these drugs. This is a huge step in holding companies accountable and preventing illegal actors from taking advantage of women and circumventing U.S. law. By restoring these safety requirements, we can ensure that abortion pills are no longer administered under a veil of deregulation that endangers lives for the sake of political convenience.
We have firsthand accounts of the damage caused when powerful abortion drugs like mifepristone are distributed without proper medical guidelines. Reports of hemorrhaging, severe pain, and even fatalities are not isolated incidents; they are the predictable outcome of reckless deregulation. As we have done countless times in the past, before the Supreme Court and other federal courts, the ACLJ stands committed to ensuring that life is protected and that women are not subjected to substandard care in the name of political expediency.
Senator Hawley’s bill represents a beacon of hope and sanity in a policy landscape that has too often prioritized ideology over women’s safety. We are proud to stand with him and are prepared to act swiftly to support this legislation, defend its principles, and hold accountable those who would sacrifice women’s safety for political gain.
As Senator Hawley rightly points out, removing these safeguards has led to a dangerous surge in unsupervised chemical abortions, with women left vulnerable and alone to manage severe complications without adequate medical oversight. This is not health care – this is abandonment.
At the ACLJ, we fully support Senator Hawley’s courageous stand. We have been in ongoing communication with his office regarding this critical issue and are prepared to take action to defend pre-born lives and women’s health. We stand ready, willing, and able to legally defend this bill all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Stay connected with the ACLJ for updates on this important legislation and how we are prepared to act in defense of life and safety. Together, we can ensure that commonsense protections are restored and that life is valued and defended in every corner of our nation.
